AU men finish 3rd at Great Lakes Regional; Hudson 4th
November 10th, 2007
The Anderson University men’s cross country team finished third at the 38-team Great Lakes Regional on Saturday at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Ravens earned their fourth national appearance in the last nine years (1999, 2000, 2005 and 2007), knocking off three ranked teams in the process. Only No. 1 Calvin and No. 11 Ohio Northern finished ahead of AU.
“The men had an outstanding performance,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “Everyone did what they had to do. They paced themselves right and ran with heart the last 10 minutes.”
Sean Hudson led the Ravens with a fourth place finish individually in a time of 25:02.65. Personally, it was the senior’s second best career time. The top three finishers were all from No. 1 Calvin.
Hudson was joined on the All-Regional team with Matt Ingalls (19th, 25:35.90), Matt Helm (27th, 25:45.15) and Troy Pryor (29th, 25:47.65). All three had personal best times in the meet.
“Usually if you get four people to the nationals, you get to the nationals as a team,” said Wilson. “We beat three teams ranked in the top 30.”
Other AU finishers were Dan DeYoung (46th, 26:06), Tony Pryor (131st, 27:20.40) and Kyle Schmidt (153rd, 27:53.20). DeYoung’s time was his second best career time.
AU will compete in the NCAA Div. III national meet on Nov. 17 at St. Olaf, Minn.
