Seniors go out a winner in final home football game

Thompson_web.jpgThe Anderson University football team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hanover College 37-27 on Saturday at Macholtz Stadium on Senior Day.

Senior Denny Kimmel led the Ravens in his final home game with 135 yards rushing and a touchdown. It was the 15th career 100-yard rushing game for Kimmel, tying him with Larry Bryant on the career list. Thomas Lee holds the record with 17 100-yard rushing games.

Kimmel also tied Alex Gill school record for consecutive games catching a pass at 40. Kimmel finished with four receptions for 38 yards and had 187 all-purpose yards in the contest. He is second in the nation in all-purpose yards per game at 220.2.
Senior Matthew Thompson also finished with a bang, catching a team-high six passes for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Seniors Brady Church and Ryan Kell added three and two receptions, respectively.

Chase Thurston finished the game 19-of-34 for a career-high 223 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Travon Curry led the team with 11 tackles and an interception, which he returned for a 64-yard touchdown. Jeremiah Townsell and Matt Plessinger each had eight tackles as did senior cornerback Josh Randolph. Townsell also had a pair of sacks as did Ben Larson and Tom Helms.

Senior Cory Boyland finished with seven tackles, two tackles-for-loss, a sack and a fumble recovery. Seniors Josh Deeter and Brandon Johnson finished with four and two tackles, respectively.

AU (3-6, 2-4 HCAC) travels to Manchester on Saturday for the Bronze Ball game. The game will be carried live on WQME 98.7 FM and on the internet broadcast at 1 p.m.
