AU finishes 4th at HCAC women’s tennis championships

The Anderson University women’s tennis team finished in fourth place at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday at the West Indy Raquet Club in Indianapolis.
Emily Thompson led the Ravens with a pair of victories over Courtney Hyde (Hanover) 6-2, 6-3 and No. 2 seed Lindsay Shaw (Franklin), 6-2, 6-2. She lost to No. 1 seed Danielle Walker (Manchester) on Saturday in the championship match of No. 6 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Other individuals that won their opening match and tied for third-place were Katelyn Boes (No. 2), Jessie Rigby (No. 4) and Katie Porter (No. 5).
Rachel Makin (No. 1) and Mandy Hackney (No. 3) lost their opener, but rebounded to win their second match. Makin finished fifth after winning the consolation match on Saturday.
In the double competition, all three Raven teams won their first match before falling in the second one, finishing tied for third place.
