Baseball team outslugs Yellow Jackets in opener

The Anderson University baseball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College 16-12 on Friday at Raven Park in the first of a three-game weekend series.
Daniel Hiatt led the Ravens with four hits, two runs and three RBI, including a pair of home runs as the Ravens hit five in the contest.
Stephen Jones had two hits, two runs and three RBI, including a home run and Chris Jarrett had a triple, home run, two runs scored and three RBI.
Justin Decker had two hits, two runs and two RBI, including a home run and Eric Smith had two hits, two runs and three RBI. Brad Schnepp and Brad Lantz added two hits each.
Schnepp earned the victory on the mound, allowing six hits and five runs while walking three and striking out four.
AU (19-13, 9-7 HCAC) travels to Defiance for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
