Popp wins Trainer of the Year Award

Anderson University’s Jennifer Popp has been named the 2008 College Athletic Trainer of the Year in the state by the Indiana Athletic Training Association.

Popp is the third AU trainer to receive this award with current Director of Sports Medicine Steve Risinger winning the inaugural year in 1988. Tom Bakewell was honored by the IATA in 2005.

The award is given annually to a member of the training staff at a college or university in Indiana that has been nominated. She will be honored at an IATA Awards Luncheon at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis on Oct. 26. She will receive a plaque from IATA President Craig Voll and Chair Joe Harvey. There will also be a display at Butler University in the Hall of Fame area at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Popp is the Director of Athletic Training Education at AU as well as an Associate Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Kinesiology. She has been at AU for the past 11 years.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois and earned her Master’s of Science at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She added her Ph.D from Ball State in 2004.
