Ravens sweep Spartans in softball doubleheader

Siefring_web.jpgThe Anderson University softball team swept a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games at Manchester College on Tuesday, winning the first game 10-1 and the second game 8-3.

In the first game, Erin Garrity led the Ravens with four hits, three runs and three RBI, including a double.

Chelsie Haines had two hits and two runs, including a double, and Kahley Barkes had two hits. Brittany Lane had three sacrifices and an RBI.

Kelly Thompson tossed a two-hitter on the mound, walking one and striking out nine. She also had a pair of hits and three RBI at the plate.

In the second game, Haines had three hits, including the game-winner in the eighth inning. Julia Siefring added a three-RBI triple in the eighth to seal the victory.

Thompson and Kelly Shuck each had two hits and an RBI and Barkes had two hits and two runs. Lane added a home run and two RBI.

Thompson earned the victory in relief, allowing only a walk over the final three innings. Jessica Alsman tossed the first five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out four and walking two.

AU (15-19, 9-5 HCAC) hosts St. Francis on Thursday for Senior Day. The games will be carried live on the internet broadcast from Raven Field at 4 p.m.
