Saturday split gives baseball team series win at Transy

baseball5.jpgThe Anderson University baseball team split the final two games of its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Transylvania, losing the first game 5-1, but winning the rubber-game 13-6 on Saturday in Lexington, Ky.

AU won the first game of the series on Friday 13-11 to take two of three games in the weekend series.

In the first game, Kevin Pence accounted for the only offense of the game with a solo home run in the sixth inning as the Ravens were held to four hits. Transy got three runs in the third and two more in the sixth inning.

Brad Schnepp took the loss on the mound, allowing five hits and four earned runs while walking one and striking out six.

In the second game, Daniel Hiatt led the offense with three hits, two runs, three RBI and a stolen base, including a double and a home run.

Eric Smith had three hits, three runs and two RBI and Cody Young had a triple and two RBI. Brady Roundtree added a double and two RBI and Chris Jarrett two RBI and a stolen base.

Kyle Dillon earned the win in relief, pitching the final five innings and allowing only one hit and no earned runs while striking out three.

AU (9-6, 2-1 HCAC) hosts Franklin on Tuesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast from Raven Park at 4 p.m.
