Softball team sweeps Franklin in HCAC doubleheader

Thompson_web1.jpgThe Anderson University softball team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Franklin College on Tuesday at Raven Field, winning the first game 8-0 and the second 11-8.

In the first game, Kelly Thompson earned the victory on the mound, allowing only three hits while striking out eight without a walk.

Gretchen Louzon led the offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI, including a double. Erin Garrity had two hits and four RBI, including a home run and a double. Brittany Lane added two hits, including a double.

In the second game, Chelsie Haines led the Ravens with two hits, two runs and two RBI, including a home run.

Thompson had two hits and an RBI, including a double. Kelly Shuck had a home run and three RBI and Jessica Alsman had a double and two RBI.

Louzon had two hits and two runs and also earned the victory on the mound. She pitched 6.1 innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs while walking three and striking out five. Alsman earned the save in relief, pitching the final two outs.

AU (7-11, 2-0 HCAC) travels to HCAC foe Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday at 2 p.m.
