The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost at Adrian College 64-63 on Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
Tiffany Bowsher led the Ravens with 18 points, 13 rebounds and two steals, hitting 7-of-16 shots from the field. Ellen Thompson had 15 points in just 16 minutes off the bench, hitting 6-of-10 field goals.
Mel Hawthorne had 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals, making 5-of-12 field goals. Kayla Martin was also in double figures with 10 points and three assists, hitting 5-of-9 field goals. Mandy Seward added four points, six rebounds and six assists.
AU cut the Adrian lead to 64-63 with a minute left and after a blocked shot by Hawthorne had two chances to win the game. They missed a shot on the first possession and turned the ball over in the final seconds.
AU shot 47 percent from the field compared to 44 percent for Adrian. The Bulldogs had the advantage in rebounds (37-34), turnovers (16-18) and second chance points (24-14), but the Ravens had the edge in assists (17-13), blocks (7-3), steals (8-5) and points off turnovers (20-13).
AU (5-7, 3-1 HCAC) hosts Defiance next Saturday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 1 p.m.
