Some college freshmen need time to adjust to their new surroundings.
A new town and a strange campus compound the seemingly overwhelming adjustment. Anderson University freshman Jordan Worley doesn’t have those fears.
“In a way it just feels like home,” he said. “We all live on campus, but sometimes it still feels like I’m still living with my mom. I see her all the time.”
Worley, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound tight end, is one of four Highland alums new to the Ravens football team this season. He’s joined by offensive lineman Travis Gladney, wide receiver Taylor Hopkins and defensive end Zack Malone.
AU opens the 2009 season tonight at rival Taylor. And the former Scots are settling into their new home.
“It’s like a family here, too,” Gladney, who will start tonight at right tackle, said. “We’ve just got a new family now.”
Malone said it’s nice to be surrounded by familiar friendly faces.
“It feels good to know you have support, no matter what,” he said.
AU head coach Jeff Judge said the Highland quartet has served as de facto tour guides for many of their teammates, pointing out local hangouts like The Lemon Drop.
“There’s no question their familiarity with the area has helped a little bit,” he said. “All four of them are pretty good players. They’re hard working kids.”
They’re also part of a sizable talent infusion.
