The Anderson University men’s basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College 65-63 on Saturday night in the home opener at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Andrew Bowman led the Ravens with 17 points and seven rebounds, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field and 5-of-9 free throws.
Ty Riddle also had 17 points, including four 3-pointers and Andrew Jones just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds. Gabe Miller added five points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Ravens shot just 39 percent from the field and 22-of-36 from the free throw line compared to 50 percent shooting and 12-of-19 free throws by the Hornets.
Kalamazoo also had the advantage on the boards (32-28) as well as assists (16-11) and points off turnovers (17-10). AU had the edge in turnovers (10-17), points in the paint (24-22) and steals (6-3).
The Ravens led for most of the game, including 30-27 at the half, but the Hornets used a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the second half at 51-50 with four minutes left. AU scored the next six points to reclaim the lead for good, but the visitors would get as close as 64-63 on a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
AU (2-0) travels to Platteville on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
