Defiance Spoils Series Sweep in Sunday Finale

Rogers_webThe Anderson University baseball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College 4-2 on Sunday at Rutter Field in Defiance, Ohio.

The Ravens had won the first two games of the series on Saturday, but couldn’t pull off the sweep in the third and final game.

Aaron Rogers led the Raven offense with two hits, including a home run.

Michael Tucker added two hits and an RBI and the freshmen trio of Cole Heberling, Jordan Ball and Jacob Craft each chipped in with a hit.

Jake Eaton took the loss on the mound, allowing six hits and two earned runs in six innings of work, striking out five without a walk. Tyler Watson threw two shutout innings while striking out three.

AU (22-11, 14-4 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman (22-9, 13-4 HCAC) on Tuesday for a battle for first place in the conference standings at 4 p.m. The Ravens lead the Engineers by a half game in the standings with seven games remaining.

Ravens Sweep Yellow Jackets in HCAC Baseball Twinbill

Eaton_webThe Anderson University baseball team swept a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rutter Field on Saturday in Defiance, Ohio. The Ravens won the first game 2-0 and the second contest 8-2.

In the first game,  Cole Heberling had the only RBI of the game, scoring Michael Tucker and Brett Detty on a single in the fourth inning.

Greg Vogt earned the victory on the mound, allowing just three hits and no runs in the complete game decision, striking out eight with just one walk.

In the second game, Jacob Craft led the Raven offense with two hits and two RBI, including a double.

Detty had a double, triple, two runs and an RBI and Vince Moore added two hits. Tucker chipped in with a double, two runs and two RBI.

Dan Schmitz earned the victory on the mound, allowing fou hits and one earned run in seven innings while striking out nine.

Tyler Watson and Andrew Enderle both tossed a hitless, scoreless inning of relief with a combined three strikeouts.

AU (22-10, 14-3 HCAC) plays at Defiance on Sunday in the final game of the series at 1 p.m.

Baseball Team Falls to Manchester in HCAC Contest

Schaefer_webThe Anderson University baseball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Manchester College 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Don Brandon Field.

Brett Detty had a double to lead the Raven offense, which was held to just four hits in the contest.

Jacob Craft, Cole Heberling and Drew Kidd had the other hits for AU in the game.

Nolan Schaefer took the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits and two earned runs in seven innings while striking out three.

Tyler Watson pitched a perfect 1.1 innings of relief, striking out one without allowing a baserunner.

AU (20-10, 12-3 HCAC) travels to Defiance on Friday at 4 p.m.

Heberling Wins HCAC Hitter of the Week Award

Heberling.ColeAnderson University’s Cole Heberling has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday.

The freshman led the Ravens to a 4-1 record, finishing the week 11-for-19 (.579) at the plate with seven runs scored, one home run, five RBI, and a .789 slugging percentage.

Heberling currently leads the Ravens in batting average (.385) this spring.

Anderson (20-9, 12-2 HCAC) will host Manchester on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Saturday Split Gives Ravens Series Win Over Beavers

Schmitz_webThe Anderson University baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University at Don Brandon Field.

The Ravens won the first game 8-6 to extend their HCAC winning streak to 11 games, but lost in the series finale 15-7.

AU (20-9, 12-2 HCAC) won the first game of the series 12-8 on Friday night and holds a one-game lead over Rose-Hulman (19-8, 10-3 HCAC) in the conference standings.

In the first game, Vince Moore led the Raven offense with three hits and three RBI, including a triple.

Brett Detty also had three hits and two runs scored and Kyle Beckman added two hits and two runs.

Zach Garcia, Michael Tucker and Jacob Craft all chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Andrew Enderle earned the victory on the mound, allowing only two walks in the final 1.1 innings of relief. Starter

Dan Schmitz allowed 12 hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings of work, striking out a career-high tying 10 batters without a walk.

In the second game, Detty led the offense with three hits and Jeremy Shelmadine added a three-run inside-the-park home run.

Moore and Cole Heberling each had two hits and Tucker added his 10th home run of the season and two RBI.

AU hosts Manchester on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Baseball Wins 10th Straight HCAC Game Over Bluffton

Heberling_webThe Anderson University baseball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 12-8 on Friday night at Don Brandon Field.

The conference victory was the 10th in a row for the Ravens, who have a two-game lead in the HCAC standings at the half-way point of the conference schedule.

Cole Heberling led the Raven offense with three hits, three runs and three RBI, including a home run and a double.

Zach Garcia also had three hits, three runs and Jacob Craft added two hits, two runs and two RBI, including a triple. Jordan Ball chipped in with two hits and two RBI, including a double.

Michael Tucker hit his ninth home run of the season and Brett Detty also had a hit and an RBI.

Greg Vogt improved to 5-2 on the mound, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in seven innings while striking out three.

AU (19-8, 11-1 HCAC) hosts Bluffton for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.

Ravens Roll to Non-Conference Victory Over Wabash

Garcia_webThe Anderson University baseball team defeated non-conference foe Wabash College 7-1 on Wednesday at Don Brandon Field.

Jake Eaton won his first game of the season on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out two in seven innings of work.

Tyler Watson and Andrew Enderle each tossed an inning of relief without allowing a base-runner. Watson fanned two and Enderle struck out all three batters he faced.

Cole Heberling led the Raven offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI and Brett Detty had two hits and two RBI, including a double.

Kyle Beckman added two hits, two runs and Jacob Craft chipped in with two RBI.

AU (18-8, 10-1 HCAC) hosts Bluffton on Friday at 4 p.m.

AU Baseball Wins Battle of Top Two HCAC Teams

Detty_webThe Anderson University baseball team extended its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference lead to two games with a 7-1 victory over second-place Rose-Hulman on Tuesday at Don Brandon Field.

Jeremy Shelmadine led the Raven offense with two hits and two runs, including a double.

Cole Heberling also had two hits and a run and Jacob Craft added a triple and two RBI. Michael Tucker had a triple and an RBI and Brett Detty and Zach Garcia chipped in with a hit and an RBI each.

Nolan Schaefer was the winning pitcher for the Ravens, allowing three hits and no earned runs in seven innings while striking out six. Tyler Watson tossed the final two innings, allowing two hits with a strikeout.

AU (17-8, 10-1 HCAC) hosts Wabash on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Baseball Team Sweeps Hanover in Series Finale

Foley_webThe Anderson University baseball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hanover College 18-16 on Saturday at Don Brandon Field to complete their three-game weekend series sweep.

Jacob Craft led the Raven offense with four hits and three RBI, including a double.

Zach Garcia had three hits, two runs and three RBI, including a double, and Brett Detty had two hits, two runs and four RBI, including a double.

Drew Kidd added two hits, four runs and an RBI and Cole Heberling chipped in with a double and three RBI.

Nick Nunez got the win on the mound in relief, allowing three hits and one run in 1.1 innings while striking out three. Nolan Schaefer picked up his first save, tossing three shutout innings to end the game without allowing a hit while striking out five.

AU (16-8, 9-1 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Baseball Sweeps Hanover in HCAC Home Doubleheader

Vogt_webThe Anderson University baseball team swept a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Hanover College on Saturday at Don Brandon Field. The Ravens won the first game 2-0 and captured the nightcap 7-6 in 11 innings.

In the first game, Greg Vogt tossed a complete-game three-hitter, going seven innings and striking out seven with just one walk.

Brett Detty singled to drive in Kyle Beckman, who had doubled to lead off the inning, with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Michael Tucker added a solo home run as well later in the inning. Cole Heberling and Zach Garcia also had hits in the game as the Ravens outhit the Panthers 5-3.

In the second game, Jacob Craft led the offense with three hits, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Detty scored the game-winning run in the last inning after doubling to open the frame. Nate Clem sacrificed him to third before two intentional walks loaded the bases for Craft.

Jeremy Shelmadine and Heberling each had three hits and Detty added two hits. Vince Moore chipped in with a hit and two RBI.

AU outhit Hanover 16-5 in the game, but committed five errors in the field.

Starting pitcher Dan Schmitz got a no-decision, allowing two hits and no earned runs through 6.2 innings while striking out 10.

Andrew Enderle earned the victory in relief, allowing only one walk in the final three innings while striking out two.

AU (15-8, 8-1 HCAC) hosts Hanover for the final game of the series on Saturday at noon.
