AU recognizes students, faculty, staff, community partners for service

Anderson University recently recognized several students, faculty, and staff for their dedication to community service during the past year.

The 2013-14 Community Partner of the Year was awarded to Dove Harbor. Dove Harbor provides opportunities for students to be involved in programming, interpersonal training, and leadership roles.

“Dove Harbor has greatly assisted in the learning process of several AU students,” said Dr. Shelda Borders, assistant professor of psychology.

Seniors recognized for academic, athletic achievement

Anderson University recognized seniors Logan Hansen, Kayleigh Mower, and Lauren Stephens during honors chapel convocation on April 22, for achieving a 4.0 cumulative GPA during their years at AU. Alexandria Friske and Tyler Ganus were also recognized with the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for their academic and athletic accomplishments, campus involvement, and leadership.

AU students giving back to community

For the past five years Anderson University students have been sprucing up the city through the Operation Foundation program.

Jennie McMullen, a student at AU and director of Operation Foundation, said 325 students volunteered this month to pick up trash, rake leaves, paint, mend fences and clean up the hiking and biking trails.

Mayor Kevin Smith presented the students with a Community Service Award on Wednesday.

AU senior Sara Eaton receives Christian education scholarship

Anderson University senior Sara Eaton majoring in Bible and Religion, from LaGrange, Ind., was recently selected as the 2014 recipient of the Billie Roy and Pearl Toon Smith Endowed Christian Education Scholarship Award. The scholarship was presented to Eaton on April 16 by the Department of Religious Studies during a luncheon in the Olt Student Center.

LAMC Executive Director, Bobbette Snyder, announces retirement

After more than 22 years at the helm of Madison County’s incubator for community leaders, Bobbette Snyder announced that effective June 30, 2014 she will retire as executive director of The Leadership Academy of Madison County (LAMC). While she may not be at LAMC’s helm, Snyder stressed that she will remain an active member of the organization.
