The Anderson University men’s soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association Ethics Award for the 2009 season.
Sixty-eight teams received either Gold, Silver or Bronze versions of the Team Ethics Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the number of yellow or red cards they are shown by the referees throughout the season.
AU was one of 14 teams that claimed the Bronze Award, which is given to the teams that accumulate no red cards and a maximum of 10 yellow cards. It was the third time the men have won this award.
Anderson University is only one of three men’s teams to win the award and one of two institutions to have both its men and women’s teams win the award.

The Anderson University men’s soccer team continue to impress in the classroom with being named NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 13th straight year.
With the mission intact of the NCAA division III scholar-athlete, AU is the only College/University in the Unites States to have been named 13 years in a row. Since the inception of the award in 1997, the Anderson Men’s team has been a regular for this award.
The NSCAA awards this to institutions that keep over a 3.0 grade point average for their respective soccer team. Anderson carried a 3.11 this year as a team.

Anderson University soccer players David Droeger, Austin Fridley and Matt Young were named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference 1st Team for the 2009 season on Thursday.
Droeger led the Ravens with six goals and 15 points and was second in assists (3) and shots (42) while Young topped the Ravens in shots (51) and had three goals, two assists and eight points. Fridley had three goals, three assists, nine points and 42 shots.
Matt Robinson and Stephen Brown were named to the All-HCAC 2nd Team. Robinson led the team with four assists and was third with three goals and 10 points. Brown had seven shots.
Ruben Oliva was named the Freshman of the Year. The rookie was second on the team in goals (4) and points (11) and fourth with 34 shots.
AU finished 8-11-1 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC. They lost to HCAC champion Transylvania in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
