Men’s Soccer remains unbeaten in HCAC play

Spencer_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Earlham College 3-0 on Saturday at Macholtz Stadium.

Brad Rusche led the Ravens with two goals in the game and Brody Reinhold added a goal and an assist. Stephen Brown had two assists and Austin Fridley and Matt Young each had an assist.

AU outshot Earlham 20-8 in the game, but the Quakers had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Fridley led the Ravens with five shots and Rusche and Reinhold added four shots each.

Austin Howard got the shutout in goal for the Ravens, making two saves in the game.

AU (5-5-1, 2-0 HCAC) travels to Franklin on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

DePauw beats AU men’s soccer in overtime

Fridley_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to DePauw University 1-0 in overtime on Tuesday night at Macholtz Stadium.

The game-winning goal came in the 100th minute with just 24 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.

DePauw outshot AU 17-12 in the game and had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Chris Maloney had five saves in goal for the Ravens.

Matt Young led AU with five shots and Reid Martin added two shots.

AU (4-5-1, 1-0 HCAC) hosts Earlham on Saturday at noon.

Men’s Soccer opens HCAC with shutout victory

Martin_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Defiance College 3-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

Matt Young scored the first two goals on assists from Kingsley Kantande and Austin Fridley to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead at the half.

Kantande scored the final goal in the 48th minute with Eric Spencer and Fridley getting the assists.

Kyle Boyer led the Ravens with eight intercepts and five steals and Matt Robinson added five intercepts.

AU outshot Defiance 19-9 in the game and had a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks. Austin Howard had two saves in goal for the Ravens.

Fridley led the Ravens with six shots and Young had four shots. Brad Rusche, Spencer and Kantande added two shots apiece.

AU (4-4-1, 1-0 HCAC) hosts DePauw on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Wabash edges AU men’s soccer in double OT

msoccerThe Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Wabash College 2-1 in double overtime on Tuesday night in Crawfordsville.

Reid Martin scored the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute off a corner kick by Brad Rusche to give the Ravens the lead at the half. Chris Maloney didn’t allow a goal in the first half, making four saves.

Wabash tied the game in the 55th minute and scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute. The Little Giants outshot AU 26-3 in the game and had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Austin Howard played the final 55 minutes, finishing with five saves. Martin led the Ravens with two shots in the game.

AU (3-4-1) hosts Defiance on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Men’s soccer team settles for 1-1 tie against Illinois

Rusche_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team tied with Illinois College 1-1 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

Brad Rusche scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute with Matt Young getting the assist. Illinois tied the game in the 82nd minute and neither team could score in two 10-minute overtime periods.

AU outshot Illinois 35-5 in the game and had a 16-3 advantage in corner kicks. Chris Maloney had one save in goal for the Ravens.

Kingsley Kantande led AU with seven shots and Rusche had six shots in the game. Paul Gamber and Chad Goodrich added four shots each and Eric Spencer and Reid Martin chipped in with three shots apiece.

AU (3-3-1) travels to Wabash on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Raven men hold off Spalding in soccer contest

Boyer.webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Spalding University 2-1 on Thursday at the AU Soccer Field.

Matt Young scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute with assists from Elliott Reiff and Brad Rusche. Paul Gamber tallied the second goal in the 30th minute with assists from Kingsley Kantande and Derek Droeger.

AU outshot Spalding 29-7 in the game and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Chris Maloney had four saves in goal for the Ravens.

Young led the Ravens with seven shots and Eric Spencer and Gamber added four shots each.

AU (3-3) hosts Illinois College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Capital edges AU men’s soccer team 2-1

msoccerThe Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Capital University 2-1 on Tuesday night at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

After the Crusaders took a 2-0 lead at the half, Brad Rusche scored the Ravens lone goal in the 58th minute to cut the lead in half. Rusche led AU with four shots in the game.

Capital outshot AU 16-8 in the game and also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Austin Howard had three saves in goal for the Ravens.

AU (2-3) hosts Spalding on Thursday night at 5 p.m.

Rusche wins HCAC men’s soccer weekly award

Rusche.BradAnderson University’s Brad Rusche has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

Rusche registered a hat trick in Anderson’s 9-0 defeat of Robert Morris-Springfield, including the game-winner in the Ravens’ victory, and added a pair of assists in a 4-0 win over Cincinnati Christian on Saturday. 

Anderson (2-2) will travel to Capital on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Men’s soccer shuts out Cincinnati Christian

Droeger_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Cincinnati Christian University 4-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

Matt Young, Reid Martin, Derek Droeger and Kingsley Kantande each had a goal for the Ravens in the contest. Brad Rusche had two assists and Chad Goodrich and Kyle Boyer each had one assist.

AU outshot Cincinnati Christian 25-7 in the game and also had an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Chris Maloney had three saves in goal, notching his second shutout of the season. Kantande led the team with five shots and Young added four shots in the game.

AU (2-2) travels to Capital on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Men’s soccer team rolls over Robert Morris

msoccerThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Robert Morris 9-0 on Wednesday night in Springfield.

Brad Rusche and Chad Goodrich each had a hat trick with three goals in the game. Paul Gamber had a goal and two assists and Hayden Wood added a goal and an assist. Kingsley Kantande had the other AU goal.
