Franklin pulls away from AU women in 2nd half

The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin College 73-56 on Monday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Lauren Leisure led the Ravens with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists, hitting 7-of-17 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Ellen Thompson had nine points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and Courtney Prater had four points and a team-high nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass.

Hannah Wickerd had six points, four points and Amy and Ashley Wuestefeld added six points and three rebounds each. Tiffany Bowsher chipped in with four points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

AU shot 33 percent from the field, including 4-of-13 from 3-point range and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Franklin finished at 52 percent shooting, including 58 in the second half when it outscored the hosts 47-32.

The Grizzlies had a 39-37 advantage on the boards, but the Ravens had the edge on the offensive glass 17-12. Franklin had the lead in points in the paint (32-24), assists (24-11) and second chance points (15-4) while AU had the advantage in turnovers (15-16), points off turnovers (15-13) and steals (8-7).

AU (6-15, 5-7 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

AU women fall in HCAC road trip to Bluffton

wbasketballThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 64-57 on Wednesday night at Founders Hall in Bluffton, Ohio.

Lauren Leisure led the Ravens with 19 points and four rebounds, hitting 8-of-18 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers.

Tiffany Bowsher was also in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Amy Wuestefeld had nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and Ashley Wuestefeld added six points, three rebounds and two steals off the bench.

AU shot 42 percent from the field, including 48 in the first half when it led 32-29. Bluffton finished at 52 percent shooting, including 63 in the second half when it outscored the visitors 35-25. The Ravens also hit 6-of-12 from 3-point range while the Beavers were 8-of-14 from behind the arc.

The Ravens won the battle of the boards 32-28, including 13-6 on the offensive glass. AU also had the edge in assists (16-15), turnovers (13-15) and second chance points (14-10) while Bluffton had the lead in points in the paint (28-22) and steals (8-6).

AU (6-14, 5-6 HCAC) hosts Franklin on Saturday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium at 3 p.m.

Late run gives Defiance overtime win over women

Thompson_web2The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College 77-68 in overtime on Wednesday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets erased a 16-point second half deficit, scoring the final eight points of regulation to force the game into overtime. Defiance scored the first seven points of the extra session as the Ravens missed their last 15 shots from the field in the game, including 0-for-9 in overtime.

Tiffany Bowsher led the Ravens with 19 pints and nine rebounds, hitting 6-of-11 field goals and all seven of her free throw attempts.

Ellen Thompson had 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and Shawna Wuethrich was also in double figures with 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Courtney Prater had eight points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, two steals and Lauren Leisure added nine points and three assists.

AU finished at 43 percent shooting for the game, including 57 in the first half when it led 39-27. Defiance finished at 46 percent shooting, including 50 percent in the second half and 100 percent in overtime. The Yellow Jackets also hit 8-of-20 shots from 3-point range and 19-of-29 free throws compared to 2-of-10 from behind the arc and 14-of-22 from the charity stripe for the Ravens.

The Ravens had a 47-29 advantage on the boards, including 20-10 on the offensive glass. The hosts also had the edge in points in the paint (34-30), seecond chance points (14-8), assists (17-14) and blocks (5-3), but the visitors had the lead in turnovers (13-24), points off turnovers (27-17) and steals (12-5).

AU (6-13, 5-5 HCAC) travels to Bluffton next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Raven women sweep season series with MSJ

Geeting_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Mt. St. Joseph 63-53 on Saturday at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Tiffany Bowsher led the Ravens with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists, hitting 7-of-19 field goals.

Ellen Thompson had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and Lauren Leisure was also in double figures with 12 points and two rebounds, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute.

Courtney Prater had eight points, three rebounds and Hannah Wickard and Kate Barwick added six and five points, respectively, off the bench. Shawna Wuethrich led the team with four assists and Amy Wuestefeld chipped in with three points, four rebounds and three assists.

AU shot 46 percent from the field and was 14-of-18 from the free throw line. MSJ finished at 37 percent shooting, but made 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. The Lions had the advantage on the boards (32-30), including 12-11 on the offensive glass. The Ravens had the edge in points in the paint (38-24), turnovers (13-21) and points off turnovers (18-7).

AU (6-12, 5-4 HCAC) hosts Defiance on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.

Manchester rallies in 2nd half to defeat AU women

Wuethrich_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Manchester College 54-51 on Wednesday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Tiffany Bowsher led the Ravens with 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists, hitting 6-of-14 shots from the field.

Shawna Wuethrich was also in double figures with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists, hitting 5-of-8 field goals. Ellen Thompson had nine points, five rebounds and Amy Wuestefeld added eight points, five rebounds and three assists.

AU shot 44 percent from the field, but only 1-of-9 from 3-point range. Manchester finished at 33 percent shooting, but made 18-of-27 free throws compared to just 8-of-9 for the Ravens.

The Ravens had a 38-25 advantage on the boards, including 12-10 on the offensive glass. The hosts also had the edge in assists (11-9), points in the paint (32-20) and second chance points (9-6), but the Spartans had the lead in turnovers (5-16), points off turnovers (13-5), blocks (4-0) and steals (6-0).

The game was tied at 49-49 with under two minutes left, but the Spartans hit three free throws to lead with a minute in the game. Wuethrich’s layup with 21 seconds left cut the deficit to one, but after two free throws by Manchester the Ravens missed a game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds.

AU (5-12, 4-4 HCAC) travels to Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Hanover hands AU women HCAC road defeat

wbasketballThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hanover College 60-50 on Saturday at Collier Arena in Hanover.

Ellen Thompson led the Ravens with 17 points and seven rebounds, hitting 6-of-13 field goals and 5-of-7 free throws.

Shawna Wuethrich was also in double figures with 11 points and three rebounds off the bench. Courtney Prater had six points, six rebounds and Tiffany Bowsher added four points, six rebounds and three assists.

AU shot 42 percent from the field, including 52 in the first half when it led 31-23. Hanover finished at 44 percent shooting, including 54 in the second half when it outscored the guests 37-19. The Ravens tied the score at 47, but the Panthers used a 10-0 run late in the game to secure the victory.

AU (5-11, 4-3 HCAC) hosts Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.

Raven women rout Engineers in HCAC home tilt

Tiffany Bowsher led the Ravens with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals, hitting 9-of-15 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer.

Courtney Prater had a double-double, registering 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals, making 4-of-6 field goals. Hannah Wickard added six points, five rebounds and Ellen Thompson chipped in with five points, four rebounds and two assists.

AU shot 42 percent from the field compared to 26 percent shooting for Rose-Hulman. The Ravens had a 47-28 advantage on the boards, including 19-9 on the offensive glass. The hosts also had the edge in points in the paint (30-12), assists (15-8), turnovers (9-19), points off turnovers (12-0), second chance points (20-2), steals (9-1) and bench scoring (20-1).

AU (5-10, 4-2 HCAC) travels to Hanover on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Transylvania handles AU women in HCAC contest

Courtney Prater led the Ravens with 13 points, 11 rebounds and a block, hitting 5-of-7 field goals and all three of her free throw attempts.

Tiffany Bowsher had seven points and a game-high 14 rebounds and Lauren Leisure added nine points, two rebounds and two assists.

AU shot just 30 percent from the field compared to 41 percent shooting for the Pioneers. The Ravens had a 42-35 advantage on the boards, but the hosts lead in turnovers (10-25), points off turnovers (30-4), assists (17-7) and steals (12-3).

Ellen Thompson led the Ravens with 13 points and seven rebounds, hitting 4-of-11 field goals and all five of her free throw attempts.

Tiffany Bowsher had nine points, seven rebounds and Lauren Leisure had nine points, three rebounds and three steals. Amy and Ashley Wuestefeld added six points each.

AU shot 30 percent from the field, including 1-of-14 from 3-point range. Franklin finished at 47 percent shooting, including 5-of-17 from behind the arc.

Bulldogs beat Raven women’s basketball team

Wickard_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Adrian University 66-60 on Saturday in a non-conference matchup at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Ellen Thompson and Tiffany Bowsher each had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Ravens. Bowsher made 8-of-14 field goals and had three assists, a block and a steal. Thompson made 9-of-11 free throws and added two assists, a block and a steal.

Lauren Leisure was also in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and Stephanie Geeting and Shawna Wuethrich added six points each off the bench.

AU shot 43 percent from the field compared to 45 percent for Adrian. The Ravens won the battle of the boards 35-34, but the Bulldogs had the edge on the offensive glass 12-9. Adrian also had the lead in turnovers (14-20), points in the paint (40-18), points off turnovers (17-12) and steals (12-7).

AU (4-8, 3-0 HCAC) travels to Franklin on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
