Campus community mourns loss of student Keren Berrios

The university community received word last Friday, August 3, that Keren Berrios, an Anderson University student from El Salvador, was involved in a serious car accident. She was transported to Saint John’s Health System in Anderson before being airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She passed away on Sunday, August 5.

AU alumnus Jon McLaughlin to give homecoming concert, Oct. 13

Jon McLaughlin, 2005 AU alumnus, will return to his alma mater and Reardon Auditorium for a concert on Oct. 13 as a part of the 2007 homecoming festivities. His first album with Island Records, INDIANA, was released earlier this year. The album features songs such as "Beautiful Disaster" and "Industry."

McLaughlin has toured with artists such as with O.A.R., Live, Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, and Sister Hazel.

AU alumna Sandi Patty named Indiana Living Legend

She’s not only a legend but, thankfully for her, a living legend. Renowned gospel singer and Anderson resident Sandi Patty was honored Friday as an Indiana Living Legend by the Indiana Historical Society. “It’s a great honor to be included on that amazing list,” she said. “I’m just thankful they used the word living,” she laughed.

AU alums Bill and Gloria Gaither, who were honored in 2006, accompanied Patty, and Gloria Gaither gave Patty the award.

Federal grant establishes first Academy for English in Indiana at AU

Anderson University was selected by the United States Department of Education Office of Language Acquisition to receive a four-year grant of nearly $800,000 to establish a Professional Development Academy (PDA) for Teachers of English as a New Language. The Professional Development Academy is the first center of its kind in Indiana. The goal of the center is to prepare teachers to teach English to persons who do not speak English as a primary language.

Reardon DVDs for sale

Covenant Productions® recently released four DVDs featuring the late AU President Emeritus Robert Reardon: "Holy Places," "Robert H. Reardon Funeral," "A River Deep and Wide" and "Stories I've Told."

In "Holy Places," President Reardon recounts significant stories in the life of Anderson University from different locations on campus. "Holy Places" is a moving and inspiring piece which captures the distinctive values and traditions of Anderson University. It runs approximately 45 minutes and costs $10.

AU helps dedicate Flagship Accelerator

The Flagship Enterprise Center dedicated the new Flagship Accelerator adjacent to I-69 and southwest of Remy, Inc. within the Flagship Business Park. University recognizes longtime dean, Cleda Anderson

Saying she had helped define Anderson University, school President James L. Edwards presented the 2007 Heritage Award to longtime dean of women, the Rev. Cleda Anderson. “In her role as dean of students,” Edwards said, “Cleda strove to make Anderson University a special place in each student’s life. She took seriously the responsibility of passing along the heritage of the church to the younger generation. She watched with excitement as students began to own their faith and as the lessons of the church became real to them.”
