Student United Way at AU partners with homeless outreach program

Student United Way partnered with Tear Down the Walls to provide meals to Indianapolis homeless in November 2013.

Student United Way (SUW), a student interest club at Anderson University, delivered warm clothing and meals to the homeless in downtown Indianapolis on Nov. 23.

SUW, coordinated by United Way of Madison County, completes service projects each year throughout the central Indiana region. One of their projects during the 2013-2014 school year involved a partnership with Tear Down the Walls (TDW), a homeless outreach program in Indianapolis.

Children avoiding school because of the fear of being physically or emotionally abused has an overpowering presence today. A child hiding in the bathroom during lunchtime or a sudden decline in grades are just two of the many signs that an individual may be bullied. Bullying is a rising problem in many schools across the United States, but the Anderson University Department of Psychology decided to do something about the problem in their community.

AU alumni gather for breakfast in Indiana governor's office

AU graduates Hannah Brown and Erin Norton helped in hosting the most recent Alumni Links Breakfast in Gov. Pence's office at the Indiana Statehouse.

Anderson University alumni were invited to the Indiana Statehouse for their regular Alumni Links Breakfast on April 16. Unlike other breakfast gatherings, however, this one took place inside the office of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Alumni Links Breakfasts were started about three years ago by the Office of Alumni Relations to encourage a stronger local alumni network. The breakfasts are held at various locations in Indiana to cater to alumni living in or around the state.

AU students win awards at Alpha Chi convention

Two Anderson University students won awards for best research paper presented in their discipline at the Alpha Chi Honor Society National Convention in St. Louis at the end of March.

Alpha Chi is an honor society for upperclassmen college students around the nation. According to the Alpha Chi website, “Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of an institution’s junior, senior and graduate students. Invitation to membership comes only through an institutional chapter."
