Carnegie selects AU for 2015 Community Engagement Classification

Anderson University has been selected by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as one of 240 U.S. colleges and universities to receive its 2015 Community Engagement Classification. These 240 institutions join the 121 institutions that earned the classification during the 2010 selection process.

Sagamore Institute partners with AU political science class for policy research on agriculture in Liberia.

Students learn best when they have the opportunity to practice what they are taught in class. Due to Anderson University’s recent partnership with the Sagamore Institute, senior political science majors have the opportunity to analyze and present research on agricultural policies in Liberia.

This partnership with the Indianapolis-based think tank is the brainchild of Dr. Michael Frank, professor of political science.

Spanish majors explore culture and language in Anderson community

Spanish majors in Anderson University's Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Cultures have access to a wide range of opportunities from which to master a second language. They also have the ability to attend events on campus and in the surrounding community that immerse students in the rich cultures of the language they are studying.

Jennifer Coy is a new computer science faculty member at Anderson University.

*This is the second part in a series of articles profiling the faculty members who joined AU for the 2014-15 school year.

Jennifer Coy, associate professor of computer science, came to AU after working 10 years at Saint Joseph's University. Coy earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo, and she earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees at Purdue University.

Reactions to 'The Saint John’s Bible' exhibit

Students have had the opportunity to experience The Saint John’s Bible exhibit during its year at Nicholson Library. The exhibit started Aug. 25 and will close March 6.

Anderson University has been the host of an exhibit of The Saint John’s Bible, a hand-illuminated Bible created in the tradition of the pre-printing press era. The St. John’s Bible is a hand-written work of art.

Since Aug. 25 students, faculty, staff and community members alike have had the opportunity to search through and explore its seven volumes.

Anderson University student Chelsea Stephens, a sophomore majoring in biology and teach science from New Castle, Ind., was honored as an outstanding first-generation college student. Stephens and 30 other students from Indiana’s independent colleges and universities were recognized in November during the 25th annual “Realizing the Dream” banquet in Indianapolis.

AU's symbol of global peacemaking stands tall

Part of Anderson University’s goal is to teach its students and community to bring peace around the world, and peace poles are often considered simple reminders that peacemaking is important.

That’s why it was important for the college to get one.

The university dedicated its new peace pole on Tuesday, with the ceremony including remarks from AU President James Edwards, Provost Marie Morris and professor Fred Shively.

For 25 years, Anderson University president James Edwards has devoted himself to serving AU and fostering partnerships within the community.

“We care about the garden in which we were planted,” he told a crowd of about 250 on Saturday.

Edwards and his wife, Deanna, were recognized by both the university and the City of Anderson with the 2014 William P. Riethmiller Community Partnership Award.
