In a packed performance hall, viewers recently attended the 70th anniversary of Anderson College and Anderson University’s Chorale to hear the singing voices of both current Anderson University students and alumni of all ages.
Anderson University junior nursing student Hannah Welch is a “go-getter and a self-directed motivated student seeking out learning experiences.” At least that’s how associate nursing professor Sarah Neal describes her. Welch will be spending eight weeks this summer working as a nursing intern with the Nicaragua Resource Network (NRN).
Hands-on experience for students in all majors is just one of the things that makes Anderson University a little different than other universities. Internships are often an extension of on-campus, hands-on experiences. Some students even parlay their internship into a post-graduation job. Gracie Winkler and Rachel Sparks are just two of those students who turned an internship into a job.
The Alpha Chi National College Honor Society (NCHS) named Anderson University’s chapter of Alpha Chi a Star Chapter. This is the 19th consecutive year in which AU has earned this distinction.
“Alpha Chi is an academic national honor society that promotes academic excellence and character,” says Yardley Collett, president of Alpha Chi and a senior political science major. This honor society is exclusive to private universities and small state universities.
Anderson University possesses over 140 pieces of art created by the late artist Warner Sallman. One of these works is the iconic image of Jesus known as “Head of Christ.” This year marks the 75th anniversary of the painting’s creation. The university will hold a special celebration in the fall of 2015 to commemorate this piece.
JaLise Haney (BA ’15) has been on the front-line at Anderson University in bringing culture and diversity to campus for more than two years. Inspired by her passion for God, culture and racial reconciliation, Haney, a social work major, credits the Tri-S programs, liberal arts courses and numerous faculty members with helping to shape her passion.
