Volleyball team runs in Komen race for cancer
April 20th, 2008
The Anderson University Volleyball Team, along with parents and head coach Tami Miller’s family, participated in the Indianapolis Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, April 19.
The event is a time for the team to bond and glorify those women who are breast cancer survivors or remember those who have lost their battle with cancer. It was the fourth time the team has run in the event and the sixth time for Miller, whose mom is a nine-year survivor of cancer.
The team along with 42 thousand other participants joined in the 5K race in the cold, rainy weather. The race raises money for breast cancer research, and the volleyball team raised a combined total of over $1000.
The team’s involvement in the race stems from personal experience. Miller has a mother and aunt who are both breast cancer survivors. Miller’s mother, sister, brother, sister-in-law, two nieces, nephew, and family friend also participated in the race in addition to the volleyball players. The team participates in the race not only to raise money for research but also to raise awareness and increase community involvement.
