Marian beats Raven volleyball team in three games

Stone_webThe Anderson University  volleyball team lost to Marian University in three games on Tuesday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The scores were 25-11, 25-20 and 25-17.

Tayler Stone led the Ravens with nine kills, two digs and a block and Stephanie Weinman had six kills and 11 digs.

Kelly Roberts had four kills, five digs, six service points and Allee Donaghy added 15 digs. Jordan Stanley had 15 assists, four digs and Taylor Cox chipped in with four digs and four assists.

Sydnie Garber had four kills, two digs and Elizabeth Turner added three kills, two assists and four blocks.

AU (9-7) hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Beavers blank volleyball team in HCAC tilt

volleyballThe Anderson University volleyball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Bluffton University in three games on Friday night at Founders Hall in Bluffton, Ohio. The scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-22.

Taylor Cox led the Ravens with six assists, four digs and two service aces. Jordan Stanley had 13 assists, two aces and Allee Donaghy had 10 digs.

Elizabeth Turner added five kills and five blocks and Taylor Stone chipped in with five kills and one block.

AU (9-6, 1-2 HCAC) hosts Marian on Tuesday in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

Rose hands volleyball team first HCAC defeat

Turner_webThe Anderson University volleyball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Rose-Hulman in three games on Tuesday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.

Kelly Roberts led the Ravens with eight kills, 11 digs and three service aces. Stephanie Weinman had six kills, 18 digs, three service points, two blocks and Liz Turner had six kills, eight service points, four digs and a block.

Taylor Cox had 12 assists, nine digs, two points and Jordan Stanley added 12 assists, eight digs and four points. Allee Donaghy added 12 digs and five service points.

AU (9-5, 1-1 HCAC) travels to Bluffton on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Volleyball team opens HCAC play with victory

Carver_webThe Anderson University volleyball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin College in three games on Wednesday night in the conference opener at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The scores were 25-12, 25-10 and 30-28.

Kelly Roberts led the Ravens with 11 kills and seven digs and Jordan Stanley had 24 assists and five digs. Stephanie Weinman had 10 digs, six kills and Taylor Cox added 11 assists, five digs, two service aces and two kills.

Sydnie Garber had eight kills, four assists, two digs and Allee Donaghy added 13 digs. Elizabeth Turner added five kills, five digs and Taylor Stone chipped in with five kills, four blocks and four digs.

AU (9-4, 1-0 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Volleyball team finishes second at Manchester

volleyballThe Anderson University volleyball team defeated Albion 3-0, Purdue North Central 3-0 and Calumet 3-0, but lost to Capital 3-1 in the championship match at the Manchester Invitational on Friday and Saturday in North Manchester.

They defeated Albion by scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-12 and Purdue North Central by a count of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-17. They beat Calumet by scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-13 and lost to Capital by a count of 25-16, 18-25, 25-16 and 25-22.

Kelly Roberts led the Ravens with 37 kills, 29 digs, five blocks, three service aces and two assists.

Jordan Stanley had 70 assists, 14 digs, four service aces and Taylor Cox had 61 assists and 26 digs. Kata Bawel had 42 digs, 12 kills and Elizabeth Turner added 18 kills and 11 blocks. Sydnie Garber had 19 kills, six blocks; Courtney Carver added 14 kills, nine blocks and Allee Donaghy chipped in with 39 digs.

AU (8-4) hosts Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin on Wednesday in the home opener at 7 p.m.

Volleyball team finishes 3-1 at Hanover Invitational

volleyballThe Anderson University volleyball team defeated Maryville and Hanover in four games and Spalding in five games, but lost to Capital in four games at the Hanover Invitational tournament on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, they beat Maryville by scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 and Spalding by a count of 16-25, 25-22, 25-15, 22-25 and 17-15. On Saturday they defeated Hanover by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19 and lost to Capital by a count of 25-19, 29-27, 21-25 and 26-16.

On the first day, Taylor Cox led the Ravens with 39 assists, 27 digs and Stephanie Weinman had 39 digs and 18 kills. Kelly Roberts had 24 digs, 17 kills and Elizabeth Turner added 14 kills and nine blocks. Taylor Stone added 27 kills and Allee Donaghy 70 digs. Jordan Stanley chipped in with 47 assists.

On the second day, Weinman had 35 assists, 29 digs, 21 kills and Cox had 28 assists and 26 digs. Roberts had 31 digs, 17 kills and Stone added 14 kills and five blocks. Donaghy added 41 digs and Sydnie Garber 17 kills while Stanley chipped  in with 40 assists and Turner 10 blocks.

AU (5-3) plays Albion (6 p.m.) and Purdue North Central (8 p.m.) on Friday in North Manchester.

Volleyball team finishes 2-2 at Kalamazoo tournament

volleyballThe Anderson University volleyball team finished 2-2 at the Kalamazoo Tournament on Friday and Saturday, defeating Kalamazoo in four games and North Park in three games, but losing to Wooster in three games and Baldwin-Wallace in three games in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Against Wooster, Stephanie Weinman led the Ravens with 10 digs, six kills and two service aces. Jordan Stanley had 22 assists, 14 digs and Liz Turner added eight kills and three blocks. Allee Donaghy had 17 digs and Taylor Cox chipped in with nine assists. Molly DiRuzza added five kills.

Against Kalamazoo, Weinman had 12 kills, 11 digs, three service aces and two blocks. Stanley had 26 assists, 13 digs and Stone had 12 kills and three blocks. Turner had six kills, three blocks and Kelly Roberts added seven kills and a block. Donaghy chipped in with 23 digs.

Against Baldwin-Wallace, Stone had eight kills, one block and Donaghy had 23 digs. Stanley had 10 digs, nine assists and Cox added eight assists. Carver and Roberts chipped in with three kills each.

Against North Park, Weinman had eight kills, seven digs, two service aces and Turner had seven kills and three blocks. Stanley had 15 assists and Cox added 12 assists and seven digs. Donaghy added 29 digs and Stone chipped in with five kills.

AU (2-2) plays Maryville (4 p.m.) and Spalding (6 p.m.) next Friday in the Hanover Invitational.

HCAC tabs AU sixth in volleyball poll

volleyballThe Anderson University volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches pre-season poll on Thursday.

Defending champion Transylvania was selected first with 96 points and two first-place votes. They were followed by Mt. St. Joseph (84), Hanover (74), Bluffton (71), Rose-Hulman (65), Anderson (50), Defiance (45), Manchester (32), Franklin (22) and Earlham (11).

The Ravens finished 13-16 overall and 5-4 in the HCAC last season, good for sixth place.

AU will open the 2011 season against Wooster in the Kalamazoo Invitational on Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.
