Anderson University recently hosted Jim Wallis, executive director and editor of Sojourners and convener of Call to Renewal, during the campus’s bi-weekly chapel/convocation. Wallis’s visit was made possible through the AU Peace and Conflict Transformation Program (PACT). Wallis is a Christian leader for social change. The Anderson University Department of Chemistry and Physics was recently awarded a $9,000 grant through the Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grant (PCMNCG) Award Program. The grant will be used to purchase a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a scientific instrument that will allow students to identify and characterize unknown chemical compounds.

The combination was sparked by Anderson University Students in Free Enterprise team manager Leslie Nigh, but shot down by team members for the second annual SIFE Consulting Competition Wednesday. It wasn’t necessary. Even with subdued attire, the group won the competition, earning an additional $500 along with stipends. Nigh, Luke Denton, Eric Thompson, Mike Kinney and Kyle Mosier invested more than 450 hours into Flagship Enterprise Center-based The Bowling Center.com, a subsidiary of ePractical Solutions Inc.
Dr. Rebecca Haskett and Mr. David Neidert have recently collaborated to create Metamorphosis, a workbook centered on developing Emotional Intelligence. Spurred by a discontentment with other emotional intelligence books that didn’t guide the readers in developing their own emotional intelligence, Haskett and Neidert decided to try a different approach. Instead of a typical book, a workbook was born in order to create exercises and activities that would aid the reader in taking responsibility for their journey.
Anderson University recently announced that alumnus John Pistole, deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will address the graduating class of 2006 during commencement exercises, May 6. The 3 p.m. EDT program will be conducted in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be Rev. Dale Fontenot, senior pastor of New Life Church of God in Palmetto, La. Baccalaureate will take place earlier that day in Reardon Auditorium at 10 a.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Walking into the Kardatzke Wellness Center at Anderson University, the lobby was filled with colorful booths offering games, food and history from countries surrounding the globe. The walls were decorated with flags from faraway lands and the air was filled with exotic music to get people moving. The wellness center was completely transformed for the annual Heritage Festival. Ronke Okeniyi, senior, enticed students to learn about her native country of Nigeria by inviting people to taste zobo, a drink made from the native sorrel plant as well as to sample a sweet cracker called chin chin.
A new space for the Kissinger Learning Center was recently dedicated in the Nicholson University Library at Anderson University. The Kissinger Learning Center started as a center for students with documented learning challenges. Starting with six students, the program continues to grow as a place for students in need of help academically can go and receive help where needed. Today, between 300 and 500 students come to the Kissinger Learning Center each semester for tutoring, study groups, or help with classroom assignments.

The AU Department of Religious Studies will host the upcoming Pearl Toon Smith Memorial Christian Education Lectures, March 6-7, 2006. Under the theme, "Sanctuary and Classroom: Partners in Faith Formation," the two-day lecture series is open to pastors, teachers in congregations, and the public. The purpose of the series is to support, enhance, and promote the academic study of Christian Education and assist Christian Education professionals in the areas of teaching and related ministries.
