2008 AU graduate, Krista Allen, to work in Ethiopia

For years, Krista Allen has used her free time to help others in need.

In high school, her older brother started a program to give meals to the homeless, so Allen helped with that and other social projects. Since she started at Anderson University, she has gone on several mission trips within the United States, and one to Nairobi, Kenya.

Today, Allen will be one of the 640 students to graduate from Anderson University.

But shortly after that, she will leave on her next adventure: an 11-month internship in Ethiopia.

Baby could hardly keep his eyes open by 2 p.m.

The beagle-mix puppy was in high demand at Anderson University during “Rent-a-Puppy,” a fundraising event for social service organization Alacritas.

“It’s good publicity for us and the shelter,” said 20-year-old Samantha Smith, president of the group.

For $1, students could play and pet and cuddle with one of the six puppies out for rent.

AU faculty, staff contribute more than $2.4 million to campaign

Anderson University recently announced that 76 percent of the faculty and staff have contributed more than $2.4 million in gifts and pledges to the “Dreams. Discovery. Direction.” campaign. The public phase of the campaign for Anderson University was officially launched on October 5, 2006 and is the largest fundraising effort in the history of the institution. To date, more than $82.3 million has been raised toward the $110 million goal.

Art professor hosts "Facing Autism Symposium" in Indianapolis

Kathleen Dugan, Assistant Professor of Art and Design, is hosting a "Facing Autism Symposium" at the Indianapolis Art Center, April 26 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The symposium is provided as a free service to the community, generously supported by Dugan, The Indianapolis Art Center and the Autism society of Indiana.

Price and Boltz receive Stevenson Award

AU seniors Laura Boltz and Mark Price were recently awarded the Stevenson Outstanding Student Award for their academic achievement. As outstanding students, Boltz and Price were selected for the $2,500 award by Dr. Blake Janutolo, dean of the College of Science and Humanities, and the biology faculty. The Stevenson Award is made possible through a gift by Dr. Jerry and Patricia Stevenson.

Martin Hall celebrates 50 years of sisterhood

Martin Hall hosted a celebration to honor the decades of sisterhood that have been created since the dorm's construction in 1958. 50 people attended the 50-year celebration in Martin Lobby to share memories, stories and friendships from the hall on the eve of its renovation.

The event was attended by Betty Martin Church, granddaughter of hall's namesake, Earl Martin; Joy Loyd, former resident and Martin's niece; former Resident Directors Melissa Sprock, Erin Davis and Pam and Don Taylor; current RD Abby Long; and other current and former residents.

Living Out, "sympathetic, sensitive" new comedy in Byrum

Byrum Auditorium will host performances of the play Living Out by Lisa Loomer on April 17-19 and 25-26.

Living Out tells the story of the complicated relationship between a Salvadoran nanny and her Anglo employer. Both women are smart, hard-working mothers. Both want better lives for their children. This play explores the shared humanity between them and the differences wrought by race, class, and Ana's illegal status.
