After applying for The Joseph J. Malone Fellowship with the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations (NCUSAR) in February, Dr. Joel Shrock, associate history professor, was notified that his application was chosen among nine others to leave March 10 to Oman.
"We don't study our art in isolation," said Ronn Johnstone, assistant professor of communication at AU, "but as a dynamic component to the community we are a part of." AU recently finalized plans for Wisdom Tooth Theatre Project, an entirely student-run, professional theatre company that enable students to produce live theatre in local venues.
Ben Hayhurst, a graduating senior majoring in Finance, was recently presented with The Wall Street Journal Award during the annual banquet for the Falls School of Business (FSB) at Anderson University. The award is presented each year to an outstanding senior and is the highest honor an FSB student can receive.
Eight students were in honored in Reardon Auditorium on April 22 for achieving a 4.0 cumulative GPA during their years at Anderson University. Amy Bader, Andrea Brinkley, Raymond Kenney, Katie Kinman, Rachel Koontz, Candice Lane, Erica Narwold and Carrie Thomas all received awards for their outstanding academic achievement. Jeremiah Townsell and Melenda Hawthorne were also recognized with the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for their academic success, character, contributions to the campus community, personal growth and athletic achievement.
AU senior Andrew J. Spracklen from Pekin, Ill. was recently awarded the Stevenson Outstanding Student Award for their academic achievement. As an outstanding student, Spracklen was selected for the $5,000 award by Dr. Blake Janutolo, Dean of the College of Science and Humanities, and the biology faculty. The Stevenson Award is made possible through a gift by Dr. Jerry and Patricia Stevenson.
Alyssa Schermerhorn saw the good work done in Ligonier when residents got together to clean up neighborhoods in her hometown.
She brought the idea back to Anderson University, where students will launch the week-long “Operation Foundation: Project Anderson” beginning Monday.
To increase campus safety and create a pedestrian-friendly roadway for students at Anderson University, the university will begin a $2 million remodel project on Fifth Street this coming summer. The project, undertaken in cooperation with the City of Anderson, will both widen and add a safety median on Fifth Street upon completion.

Anderson, Ind. --- The Mack and Irene Caldwell Peacemaking Fund at Anderson University recently reached its goal of $1 million. The endowment, which funds the Peace and Conflict Transformation (PACT) Program, is unique in that it is the only million-dollar AU endowment to be funded by over 500 private givers.
Junior Nicholas Zehner received a national award from The National Council of Alpha Chi. The $1,500 Nolle Scholarship won by Zehner was based on a presentation in philosophy he presented through region five of the national honor society. [Zehner pictured on right.]
