Anderson University honored several distinguished alumni during the Homecoming chapel/convocation on Thursday, October 20, at 11 a.m. in Reardon Auditorium. Persons honored were Senator Dennis Kruse (Distinguished Alumni Award); Chris Witt (Distinguished Young Alumni Award); Michael Collette (Distinguished Service Award); Joe Royer (John H. Kane Loyalty Award); and Courtney Rice (Alumni Council Legacy Scholarship).
When the Indianapolis Colts come to training camp each year at Anderson University, Joe Royer is there. As director of Anderson University’s physical plant, Royer helps make sure the Colts have the proper accommodations and then he moves quickly to make room for students coming back to classes.
Michael Jordan once said, “I have failed over and over again — that is why I succeed.” During his time as an iconic professional basketball player, Jordan used this mantra repeatedly. Athletes often use mantras to help them push through the physical and mental pain they put their bodies through.
“Do hard things” is Anderson University alumna Christy Kihm’s mantra.
Anderson University will offer a live webcast during Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. The event, to be hosted by WQME 98.7 FM's Matt Rust, will feature conversations with AU alumni, staff, and faculty and will be shot on location along University Boulevard during the Homecoming Street Fair.
It’s been a long trip from Highland High School to the Carl D. Erskine Award of Excellence for Anderson University alum Brady Roundtree BA '11.
But the journey has been worthwhile as he claimed the statuette at the award luncheon Tuesday, presented by the Anderson Rotary Club at Anderson Country Club.
Enrich, expose, and expand are three components of the study abroad program offered at Anderson University. Traditionally, academic learning is done in the classroom with a teacher and textbooks. However, learning is not limited to a classroom. Most essential life lessons extend beyond the institution’s buildings. At AU the administration encourages students to break through classroom limitations and embrace the world that lies around them.
The Anderson University School of Nursing Alumni Open House and Awards Presentation will be held Friday, Oct. 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the School of Nursing on the second floor of Hartung Hall, with the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. There will be a complimentary appetizer and dessert reception for all nursing alumni and their families.
