AU graduate becomes professional opera singer

A great performer once said, “If you can see yourself being happy doing anything else, do it.” This was the advice given to Anderson University alumna Marci Wagnon.

Wagnon, a 2002 graduate and former professor, recently found her happiness in professional opera singing. She has had the opportunity to perform at a number of prestigious opera houses, such as the Indianapolis Opera, Lafayette Symphony and Bach Chorale, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Opera Las Vegas.

Success can be measured in many ways. For the Anderson University baseball team, success is often measured by the number of wins the team achieves or the team’s conference rank. Player success is measured by statistics, such as batting average or strikes pitched. However, last fall, the AU baseball team added a new measure of success: the number of children’s lives they impacted and the friendships that were established.

AU production of "The Crucible" a tour de force

The Crucible is ripe for operatic flair with its tale of witchery, adultery and jealousy.

But so familiar is the story of the 1692 Salem witch trials, and its allegory to 1950s’ McCarthyism, that it requires a special ensemble to distinguish each new rendition.

In the hands of Anderson University students and director Laurel Goetzinger, the 1962 winner for Pulitzer Prize of Music is a tour de force rich with expressive acting and confident voices.
