AU athlete receives Erskine Award of Excellence

AU baseball player Zach Hufferd received the Carl D. Erskine Award of Excellence

The saying is that it is hard to keep a good man down.

Apparently in the case of Anderson University and Zach Hufferd it is also true that it is hard to keep a good man off the baseball diamond.

Hufferd thought his playing days were over two years ago, but on Tuesday he received the Carl D. Erskine Award of Excellence during a Rotary Club meeting at Anderson Country Club.

Hufferd graduated from Connersville High School but chose to go to IPFW to play baseball instead of AU.

Recently Anderson University hosted two special concerts entitled “Woven Threads” that brought together some of AU’s most well-known alumni musical talent to support the university where each developed their talent and began their careers. Learn more about senior Ralf Etienne, a senior at Anderson University, who has been helping bring eyeglasses to those in need in Haiti.

Ralf Etienne is busier than the average university student.

Not only does he have a demanding class schedule and part-time job, the Anderson University senior founded and runs a charity dedicated to bringing the gift of clear sight to people in his native country, Haiti.

With help from supportive church groups, optometrists, ophthalmologists from around the country, and his fellow AU students, Etienne, 25, has collected more than 10,000 pairs of used eyeglasses for his countrymen.

Hall of Fame to add four inductees during Homecoming, Oct. 18

The Anderson University Athletic Hall of Fame is celebrating its 18th year with four new inductees who will be honored at an awards banquet on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Olt Student Center. The AU Athletic Hall of Fame was started in 1997 by former athletic director Barrett Bates to recognize former Raven athletes, coaches, and contributors to the university. They are chosen by the Hall of Fame committee.

Anderson University will honor several distinguished alumni during the Homecoming Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Schield Dining Room in the Olt Student Center. Individuals being honored include Lawrence Brownlee (Distinguished Alumni Award); Paul Mumaw (Distinguished Young Alumni Award); Dr. David Sebastian (John H. Kane Loyalty Award); and Tom Bruce (Distinguished Service Award).

Along with the annual homecoming football game and introduction of the homecoming king, queen, and court, there will also be opportunities to enjoy the Street Fair (rain or shine) that will again host Reunion Park, the Raven's Nest Sundae, and RavenFest.

Anderson University's musical revue premieres tonight

Anderson University’s “A Grand Night for Singing” premieres at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Byrum Hall.

It could be the ambiance, it could be the costumes, choreography or it could just be the singing.

While each factor is strong individually, it’s the combination that makes Anderson University’s latest production so spectacular.

AU’s “A Grand Night for Singing” premieres at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Byrum Hall.

Director and new musical theater teacher David Coolidge said he didn’t make his AU debut easy on himself, but the production is seamless.
