AU Art+Design student show juried by Eric Kass

From February 25 through March 24, the Wilson Galleries at Anderson University will host the annual Student Juried Exhibition. The opening reception and award ceremony will take place on February 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibition features artwork by Anderson University Department of Art+Design students, as well as the work of this year’s juror, Indianapolis artist and designer, Eric Kass.

Glass exhibition in Indianapolis features AU Department of Art+Design

Anderson University and Ball State University glass students have joined forces to present an exhibition of original glass works at the Garfield Park Conservatory & Sunken Garden in Indianapolis. The exhibition, Neo Natural: Botanically Inspired Glass Works, kicks off Saturday, January 21, with an opening from 5 to 7 p.m. In partnership with the Neo Natural exhibition, the Indiana Glass Arts Alliance will also be presenting their work next door at the Garfield Park Arts Center.

WWII posters on display at Anderson University

From January 21 through February 18, the Jessie C. Wilson Galleries at Anderson University will exhibit more than 35 original World War II posters. The opening reception will take place January 21, from 3-5 p.m. The exhibition includes works by influential artists and designers, including Jean Carlu, Lester Beall, Norman Rockwell, and Ben Shan. Support for the exhibition is provided by AIGA Indy.

Construction progressing on AU performance hall

Construction continues on Anderson University’s York Performance Hall and Galleries project. The building will adjoin the existing Krannert Fine Arts Building and will include classrooms, rehearsal rooms and a new performance venue, said Chris Williams, director of university communications.

AU alum Ben Orcutt uses bicycles for education

In the beginning, there were two guys, one wrench, one multi-tool and one passion: bicycles. Five years later, that hobby of repairing bicycles became the Shadeland Bicycle Collective, headed by Anderson University alum Ben Orcutt. The collective is a nonprofit organization that helps Anderson community members repair bicycles and teaches them how to fix bikes themselves.

Art+Design senior exhibition opens Saturday

Anderson University seniors Morgan Clipner, Christopher Gray, and Kelcey Rudynski will display their work during the Senior Art+Design Exhibition in the Jessie C. Wilson Galleries on AU’s campus. The show opens Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 – 5 p.m. and will be open for viewing Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. through December 16. A gallery talk-back session will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. for discussion with the artists.

Art+Design student takes 4th place in Best of Indiana Glass

Stephanie Cochran does not fit the description of a typical college student. As a glass major in the Department of Art+Design at Anderson University, Cochran is a wife and mother of grown children and her classroom is a studio equipped with furnaces. Recently, she placed fourth in the “Best of Indiana Glass” exhibit in Indianapolis.

Wilson Galleries hosts “The Sweet Breathings of Plants” by Jennifer Rosengarten

This past month Jennifer Rosengarten, professor of painting and drawing at the University of Dayton, presented her drawing exhibition, “The Sweet Breathing of Plants” in the Wilson Galleries at Anderson University. At the exhibition opening she presented her work to students and faculty.

Dr. Marie Morris named provost at Anderson University

The Anderson University Board of Trustees recently announced that Dr. Marie S. Morris has been named provost for the university, effective immediately. As provost, Morris reports to the president and will serve as chief academic officer for academic programs (excluding the School of Theology) and provide administrative oversight for areas including educational support services, information technology services, intercultural studies, Nicholson Library, registrar’s office, institutional strategic planning, and institutional research and effectiveness.

AU senior interns at World Vision

After a three-day cross-country road trip I found myself in the land of seafood and Starbucks. I had made it to scenic Seattle — where city, mountains, and sea collide — to find myself spending my summer in a rather large mass of cubicles.
