The economy is hitting college students hard, too—financial aid programs under increased and intense demand, part-time jobs harder to come by, and family financial contributions drained by unemployment and dwindling value of assets such as homes. That’s why Anderson University students will join with some 250 students representing 20 of Indiana’s independent colleges and universities on Tuesday, February 24, at 12:30 p.m., to make personal calls on their hometown legislators.
SIFE Helps Anderson Develop Office of Environmental Sustainability

Anderson University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is working with the City of Anderson to develop the Office of Environmental Sustainability. Comprised of key staff members within city government and selected members of SIFE, the Office will promote a number of initiatives to improve the environmental awareness and responsibility of businesses and individuals around the city.
Katherine Hinkley Storer, 2007 management grad

Katherine (Hinkley) Storer, a 2007 AU alumna who majored in global business management and psychology, now works as the purchasing manager for Procter & Gamble. “My passions are people and cultures, and my job enables me to interact with both,” she says.
As purchasing manager, she develops and implements strategy for sourcing fastening materials for the North American Baby, Health, and Home Care businesses.
AU Students Participate in I-69 Innovation Challenge

Five Anderson University students recently participated with four other schools in the third annual I-69 Collegiate Innovation Challenge sponsored by the Grant County Economic Growth Council. Other participants included Ball State University, Huntington University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Taylor University. The purpose of the competition is to encourage entrepreneurship along the I-69 corridor, foster collaborative market solutions through team building, promote cross-pollination, and generate creative ideas. The first I-69 Collegiate Innovation Challenge was held in November of 2006.
AU Recognized as a Leader of Educational Excellence

Anderson University has received the designation “College of Distinction” in the newly-released 2008-2009 edition of Colleges of Distinction. Unlike traditional numeric-based college guidebooks, this book recognizes and appeals to students’ unique interests, realizing what may be “the best” college for one student, may be vastly different than the best for another.
AU SIFE asks: What Can You Learn from a Chicken?

The Anderson University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter recently discovered a whole new way to teach students about trading and operating in a free market—chickens. SIFE’s Global Chicken Challenge, conducted on the AU campus Sept. 4, gave students a chance to experience the world of bartering and trade first-hand, in a game as unique as the name suggests.
The Global Chicken Challenge began with more than 50 teams of students. Each team was given a live chicken. The students then traded their chicken back to the SIFE team for any one of various available items valued one dollar. The objective of the exercise was to continue trading items for objects of increasing value.
Anderson University projects positive enrollment

Faculty, staff and returning students are on hand today to unload cars and vans as new students and families arrive on campus. Across all academic units, Anderson University will welcome a total institutional population of approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students when classes open on September 2.
Although precise numbers are not available until the third full week of classes (week of September 22), the university is projecting an increase of 12-15 percent for first-time freshman over last year. Within this year’s enrollment are approximately 600 new undergraduate students and a total undergraduate population of roughly 1,850 students. The AU undergraduate student population includes persons from more than 30 international countries and 47 states.

US News and World Report has again ranked Anderson University among the best universities in the Midwest offering master’s level degree programs. Institutions in this category offer a full range of both undergraduate and master’s level degree programs. The magazine’s 2008 guide to “America’s Best Colleges” marks the fifth consecutive year that Anderson University has been listed among the best in its class.
