Summer camps focus on dance, entrepreneurship, music business, and careers

Anderson University will offer four camps for high school students over the summer. The Orangehaus Music Business Camp and the Entrepreneurship Camp return this year, while two other camps will be offered for the first time: The JustDance Summer Dance Intensive and the Career Camp sponsored by the Anderson University Career Development Center.

Anderson University joins NetVUE as founding member

Anderson University (Anderson, Indiana) announced today that it has joined as a founding member the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE), a nationwide campus-supported network whose purpose is to expand and extend the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation on campuses. NetVUE is a new initiative of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), a national association of more than 600 independent, liberal arts colleges and universities.

AU hosts entrepreneurship business camp

Twelve aspiring entrepreneurs descended upon Anderson University’s campus last week hoping to create the perfect product pitch.

They spent hours planning, filming and editing one-minute infomercials for their product and mingling with other entrepreneurs who had already established their own companies and products.

Flagship hosts first Grow Conference

Businesses from a 30-mile radius sent representatives to the Flagship Enterprise Center on Thursday for the center’s first Grow Conference, which presented tools for businesses to survive during an economic drought.

The Grow Conference featured speakers, ranging from Anderson University Falls School of Business Dean Terry Truitt to Continental Inc. owner Judy Nagengast, and workshops on lean operations and quality control. Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman was the keynote speaker during lunch at the conference.

Senior awarded Fulbright Scholarship

Senior Carrie Thomas, a language arts education and international education major from Plainfield, Ind., has been awarded Anderson University’s first Fulbright Scholarship.

Ben Hayhurst wins Wall Street Journal Award

hayhurstBen Hayhurst, a graduating senior majoring in Finance, was recently presented with The Wall Street Journal Award during the annual banquet for the Falls School of Business (FSB) at Anderson University. The award is presented each year to an outstanding senior and is the highest honor an FSB student can receive. Hayhurst’s name will be engraved on a plaque in Hardacre Hall with past winners and also included in a full-page article in The Wall Street Journal highlighting students who have received the award across the country.

AU prepares for graduation weekend, May 9

Anderson University recently announced that Dr. Carl H. Caldwell, retiring Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Dean at Anderson University will address the graduating class of 2009 during commencement exercises, May 9. The 3 p.m. (E.D.T.) program will be conducted in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be Rev. Dr. Kerry Robinson, senior pastor of East Side Church of God in Anderson, Ind., and member of the Anderson University Board of Trustees. Baccalaureate will take place earlier that day in Reardon Auditorium at 10 a.m. All events are free and open to the public.

Carolyn Caldwell, Professor of Accounting, to retire

caldwellAfter serving students at Anderson University for 13 years, Carolyn Caldwell, adjunct professor of Accounting in the Falls School of Business, recently announced her retirement at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

Her passion for teaching Accounting extends beyond her feelings towards the subject matter. For Caldwell, reward and success are measured by students achieving and exceeding their own perceived potentials. One of her key goals in the classroom was to, “Help them learn how to learn and problem solve,” she said.
