Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 26 points, four rebounds and two assists, hitting 8-of-16 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Morrison had 15 points, 14 rebounds and four assists on 5-of-12 shooting and Bowman added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and a career-high six blocks, making 5-of-8 field goals.

Jake Browne had nine points, three rebounds and Jason Riley added six points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals. Andrew Larrick chipped in eight points and two assists off the bench.

AU shot 56 percent from the field, including 61 in the second half when it outscored Franklin 46-44. The Grizzlies finished at 40 percent shooting, including 28 in the first half when the Ravens led 33-21.

The Ravens had a 31-30 advantage on the boards, but the Grizzlies had the edge in offensive boards 13-7. AU had the lead in points in the paint (36-22), assists (17-14), turnovers (15-19), points off turnovers (22-14), blocks (6-3) and steals (6-4).

AU (13-10, 9-7 HCAC) needs one win in its final two games to clinch a spot in the six-team HCAC post-season tournament at Transylvania on Feb. 24. The Ravens are currently tied with Rose-Hulman for the No. 3 seed.

The Ravens scored a season-low 13 points on 17 percent shooting in the second half and trailed 28-13. However, the Ravens responded with a season-high 54 points in the second half on 58 percent shooting, but fell just short of a comeback win.

AU took a 51-48 lead with just over five minutes left, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Hanover gave the guests back and they never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.

Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 19 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, hitting 6-of-18 field goals and all four of his free throws, including three 3-pointers. The senior also had four assists, three steals and a block in 36 minutes.

Andrew Bowman scored a game-high 20 points to go with six rebounds and three assists, making 6-of-10 field goals. Jake Browne added 12 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting and HCAC scoring leader Phil Hogan chipped in with 10 points on 3-of-13 field goals.

AU outrebounded Hanover 38-29, including 18-10 on the offensive glass. The Ravens had the advantage in points in the paint (34-26), turnovers (14-16), points off turnovers (17-16), second chance points (21-8), assists (15-13) and steals (10-9).

AU (12-10, 8-7 HCAC) hosts Franklin for Senior Day on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Ravens lead the Grizzlies and Manchester by one game for the sixth and final spot in the post-season tournament with three games remaining.

The victory was the 100th in his career for AU head coach Tom Slyder, who now has an overall record of 100-82 in seven seasons in Anderson.

“I’m just glad to get the win the way it played out,” said Slyder. “I have three guys that have been a big part of a lot of those wins and that’s the result of hard work. They bought into the vision that we set for them.”

Andrew Bowman led the Ravens with 21 points and six rebounds, hitting 5-of-9 field goals and 11-of-12 free throws.

Brock Morrison had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and Phil Hogan added 13 points – all in the first half.

Jason Riley was also in double figures with 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals, hitting 6-of-9 field goals.

“Bowman came up big,” said Slyder. “This is the third game in a row that one of the big three didn’t score and it was a team victory by playing defense.”

AU shot 55 percent from the field, including 64 in the first half when it led 40-25. Bluffton finished at 42 percent shooting, including 33 in the first half.

The Ravens won the battle of the boards 29-25, but the Beavers had a 9-5 edge on the offensive glass.

AU also had the lead in points in the paint (38-34) and steals (9-5) while Bluffton had the advantage in assists (12-11), turnovers (13-15), points off turnovers (18-16) and second chance points (15-6).

AU led by 15 early in the second half, but Bluffton used a 21-11 run to cut the lead to 55-54 with just under 10 minutes left in the game.

Neither team led by more than four points over the final 10 minutes and it was tied at 63 and 65 with three minutes remaining.

AU took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Bowman, who scored the final seven Raven points in the game. The senior gave the visitors a 70-67 lead with another free throw in the final 10 seconds and blocked a 3-pointer on the previous Bluffton possession.

The Beavers final 3-pointer to tie bounced off the rim, giving the Ravens their fourth straight conference victory.

“We continue to build in the conference and that is three wins in a row on the road,” said Slyder.

AU (12-9, 8-6 HCAC) hosts Hanover on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

HCAC Player of the Week Phil Hogan led the Ravens with a game-high 26 points and four rebounds, hitting 10-of-16 shots and all four of his free throws, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Andrew Bowman was also in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds and Jason Riley added nine points and four assists. Jake Browne chipped in with seven points, 10 rebounds. Leading scorer Brock Morrison was held to a season-low three points and six rebounds.

AU shot 48 percent from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Rose-Hulman finished at 39 percent shooting, including 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. Both teams had four 3-pointers made.

The Ravens had a 30-28 advantage on the boards, but the Engineers had the edge in offensive rebounds (6-3). Rose-Hulman had the lead in points in the paint (30-28), assists (11-8) and steals (7-3) while AU had the advantage in points off turnovers (9-6) and second chance points (7-6).

AU (11-9, 7-6 HCAC) travels to Bluffton on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The junior led the Ravens to a pair of victories last week, averaging 20.5 points, three rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. He had 23 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals against Defiance and added 18 points, two rebounds and two assists vs. Earlham on Saturday.

For the week, he shot 59 percent from the field, 80 percent from 3-point range and 1,000 from the free throw line. Hogan leads the HCAC in scoring this season at 21.2 points per game.

AU (10-9,, 6-6 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The victory was the 1,000th in school history and the Ravens have an overall record of 1,000-967 for a winning percentage of .508 in 80 seasons. AU went 9-6 in its first season of college basketball in 1930-31. They have had 39 winning seasons, including a school best 26-4 in 1960-61.

Against Earlham, Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists, hitting 7-of-12 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Brock Morrison had 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, making 5-of-8 field goals – all in the first half.

Jake Browne added 14 points, seven rebounds and Jason Riley was also in double figures with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Andrew Larrick chipped in with six points and four rebounds off the bench.

AU shot 58 percent from the field, including 60 in the first half when it led 45-28. Earlham finished at 37 percent shooting from the field.

The Ravens had a 38-23 advantage on the boards, including 11-7 on the offensive glass.

AU also had the edge in points in the paint (42-12), assists (18-11), turnovers (13-14), points off turnovers (14-7), second chance points (17-10) and steals (11-5).

AU (10-9, 6-6 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The victory snaps the Ravens five-game losing streak and completes the series sweep of the Yellow Jackets for the season.

The Ravens won the battle of the boards 45-26, including 18-12 on the offensive glass. AU had the advantage in points in the paint (40-30), second chance points (31-13) and steals (7-6) while Defiance had the edge in assists (18-10), turnovers (9-14), points off turnovers (16-9) and blocks (5-2).

AU (9-9, 5-6 HCAC) travels to Earlham on Saturday at 3 p.m.

AU shot 43 percent from the field compared to 50 percent shooting for Transylvania. The Pioneers made 8-of-11 free throws while the Ravens failed to score a point from the line in four tries.

The Ravens won the battle of the boards 34-26, including 14-5 on the offensive glass. Transylvania had the advantage in points in the point (22-18), assists (13-10), turnovers (12-13), points off turnovers (15-12) and steals (7-5).

AU scored the first five points of the game, but Transy answered with a 13-0 run in which the hosts didn’t score for seven minutes. The Ravens responded with a 20-11 run over the final 11 minutes to take a 25-24 lead in the final seconds, but a buzzer-beater gave the Pioneers a one-point lead at the half.

Neither team led by more than seven points in the second half and there were four lead changes and five ties with the final time coming at 52 with four minutes left in the game. However, AU didn’t score on its final seven possessions as the Pioneers scored the next six points to secure the victory. Morrison’s 3-pointer at the buzzer accounted for the final scoring.

AU (8-9, 4-6 HCAC) hosts Defiance on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

AU (8-8, 4-5 HCAC) hosts HCAC leader Transylvania on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Ravens had a 37-25 advantage on the boards, including 13-4 on the offensive glass. The Beavers had the edge in assists (19-13), turnovers (12-18), points off turnovers (16-11), blocks (4-1), steals (8-5) and bench scoring (35-9).

AU (8-7, 4-4 HCAC) travels to Hanover on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Trailing by one point with under 10 seconds left, the Ravens had three shots at the game-winner, but two bounced off the rim to give the Engineers the one-point victory.

Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 23 points, hitting 9-of-22 field goals and both his free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Brock Morrison had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and Andrew Bowman was also in double figures with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Engineers had a 32-31 advantage on the boards and also had the edge in assists (13-12), points in the paint (32-30) and second chance points (10-6). The Ravens had the lead in turnovers (10-12), points off turnovers (12-10) and steals (7-6).

Rose-Hulman hit a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer to take a 35-33 lead at the half. After trailing by nine points, Rose-Hulman used a 10-0 run to take the lead and held the Ravens without a field goal for the final six minutes of the half.

There were eight ties and four lead changes in the game with the Engineers taking their biggest lead of the game at 49-43. AU would tie the game five times in the second half, including the final time at 65, but never could get the lead.

Rose-Hulman scored the next five points, but a 3-pointer by Hogan and a pair of free throws by Bowman cut the lead to 71-70 with 13 second left.

Hogan drove the lane, but his jumper was off target, with Browne getting his seventh offensive rebound. Browne missed a layup in traffic and the ball tipped around until the buzzer sounded.

AU (8-6, 4-3 HCAC) hosts Bluffton on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Brock Morrison finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, but his first pass was the 200th of his career.

With that assist, Morrison reached the 1000-point, 500-rebound and 200-assist plateau, becoming only the second player in school history to reach all three of those milestones. Ron Long, who played from 1965-69, is the only other player to reach all three marks in his Raven career.

Phil Hogan led the Ravens in scoring with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists, hitting 9-of-25 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws.

Andrew Bowman was also in double figures with 18 points and five rebounds, making 9-of-15 field goals. Jake Browne added nine points, 10 rebounds and Jason Riley chipped in with seven points, two rebounds and two assists.

AU shot 44 percent from the field and Franklin was at 47 percent shooting for the game. The Grizzlies hit 8-of-22 shots from 3-point range against the Ravens 2-3 zone while the guests finished 2-of-11 from behind the arc.

AU had a 40-32 advantage on the boards, including 16-9 on the offensive glass. The Ravens also had the edge in points in the paint (52-36) and second chance points (19-4), but the Grizzlies had the lead in assists (17-12), turnovers (7-10), points off turnovers (17-9), steals (6-3) and bench scoring (31-11).

The game was tied at 41 at the half and there were seven ties and 11 lead changes in the second half alone. The game was tied for the final time at  71 with just under two minutes left in the game.

A pair of layups sandwiched by an AU turnover gave the Grizzlies a 75-71 lead with just under one minute remaining. Bowman cut the lead in half with a offensive rebound putback, but after a missed free throw the Ravens turned the ball over. Two more Franklin free throws with 11 seconds left sealed the game.

AU (8-5, 4-2 HCAC) hosts HCAC co-leader Rose-Hulman (11-2, 5-1 HCAC) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Andrew Bowman also had a big game, contributing 29 points, nine rebounds, two assists and four steals, hitting 12-of-18 field goals, including 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Brock Morrison had a double-double, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, hitting 5-of-10 field goals. Morrison needs just six assists to become the second Raven in school history to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists. The only player to reach those milestones is Ron Long.

Jake Browne added three points and a team-high 12 rebounds and Jason Riley chipped in with four points, four assists and two steals.

AU shot 50 percent from the field, including 61 in the second half and 55 in the overtimes. Oberlin finished at 47 percent shooting, including 57 in the second half and 41 in overtime.

The Ravens finished with a 48-34 advantage on the boards, including 19-14 on the offensive glass. Oberlin had the edge in points in the paint (50-46), assists (19-16), turnovers (11-15) and steals (8-7), but AU had the lead in points off turnovers (17-11) and second chance points (24-14).

AU (7-4) hosts Manchester on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 24 points, five rebounds and two steals, hitting 6-of-11 field goals and 11-of-16 free throws, including a 3-pointer.

Jason Riley was also in double figures with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Cody Jackson added five points off the bench and Drew Larrick chipped in with four points and four rebounds.

AU shot 51 percent from the field, including 55 in the first half when it led 37-29. Earlham finished at just 34 percent shooting, including 5-of-30 from 3-point range.

The Ravens had a 41-32 advantage on the boards and also had the edge in points in the paint (36-24), points off turnovers (18-3) and steals (7-4). The Quakers had the lead in assists (14-12), turnovers (11-12) and second chance points (11-10).

AU (6-4, 3-1 HCAC) travels to Oberlin on Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Brock Morrison became the 33rd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career, hitting a 15-foot jumper with 7:35 left in the game (pictured left).

“It’s real special,” said Morrison. “I’ve had a real good career here. I started out as a freshman and worked my way up to the top. You don’t have a good career without playing with good players.”

Morrison led the Ravens with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, hitting 6-of-9 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws, including two 3-pointers.

“There’s probably not more than seven or eight players all-time here at Anderson University to score 1,000 points and 700 rebounds,” said AU coach Tom Slyder. “Very special player. Great that he can do it on his home court in front of our home fans, and obviously with the team getting the win.”

AU (5-4, 2-1 HCAC) hosts Earlham next Saturday at 3 p.m.

The junior scored a career-high 40 points with eight 3-pointers on Saturday at Transylvania, hitting 15-of-22 field goals. He had 21 points in a road win at Defiance and added 10 points against Albion on Monday.

For the week, he averaged 23.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and two assists, shooting 55 percent from the field and 47 from 3-point range.

AU (4-4, 1-1 HCAC) hosts Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Phil Hogan led the Ravens with a career-high 40 points to go with four rebounds and three assists, hitting 15-of-22 field goals, including a personal-best eight 3-pointers.

Brock Morrison was also in double figures with 14 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, making 5-of-13 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Jason Riley added four points, five rebounds, four assists and Jake Browne and Andrew Bowman chipped in with three points and five rebounds each.

Transylvania finished with 14 3-pointers in the game, including 11-of-20 in the first half. The Pioneers first 21 points all came on 3-pointers. AU finished 10-of-24 from behind the arc, including 8-of-13 by Hogan.

The Ravens and Pioneers both finished at 46 percent shooting and 15 assists, with the Ravens holding a 33-31 advantage on the boards.

Transylvania had the edge in points in the paint (20-18), turnovers (8-15), steals (7-6) and second chance points (8-5) while AU had the lead in points off turnovers (10-6).

The Pioneers led 46-32 at the half and by as many as 18 points in the game, but the Ravens got as close as three points at 62-59 with five minutes left in the game. However, Transylvania converted back-to-back three-point plays to put the game away.

AU (4-4, 1-1 HCAC) hosts Mt. St. Joseph next Saturday at 3 p.m.

The victory was the first for the Ravens at Defiance since the 2005 season.

Jake Browne hit the game-winning layup on a pass from Brock Morrison with less than five seconds remaining to give the Ravens the victory. It was only the second lead of the game for the Ravens, who trailed by 12 points at the half and as many as 15 points in the game.

Browne finished with eight points and five rebounds in just 12 minutes off the bench. He hit 3-of-4 field goals and both of his free throws.

Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 21 points, hitting 9-of-17 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws in 38 minutes.

Morrison had 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and Justin Reed was also in double figures with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Andrew Bowman added seven points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Jason Riley chipped in with eight points and two assists.

Brock Morrison registered his second straight double-double, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The senior hit 8-of-13 field goals and all three of his free throws, including five 3-pointers.

Andrew Bowman just missed a double-double, settling for 19 points and nine rebounds, hitting 9-of-17 field goals and a free throw.

Justin Reed added 12 points, three steals and Phil Hogan chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and two blocks in his first game back after missing the first five games.

The Ravens shot 53 percent from the field compared to just 41 percent shooting for the Britons. AU also made 6-of-16 from 3-point range and 17-of-27 free throws. Albion finished 3-of-13 from behind the arc and 16-of-18 from the line.

AU had a 35-28 advantage on the boards, including 14-11 on the offensive glass. The Ravens also had the edge in points in the paint (40-28), turnovers (14-17), points off turnovers (20-8), second chance points (16-9), blocks (6-0) and steals (10-6).

AU (3-3) opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at Defiance College at 7:30 p.m.

The Ravens led 66-63 with less than 10 seconds remaining, but the Comets hit a 3-pointer with two seconds to force overtime. In the overtime, the Comets outscored the Ravens 19-11 in the extra session.

Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 23 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, hitting 7-of-12 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Kurtis Runyon had 15 points and three rebounds, making 7-of-10 field goals, and Andrew Bowman was also in double figures with 11 points and five rebounds.

Andrew Larrick added eight points and six rebounds off the bench and Jason Riley and Justin Reed chipped in with six points apiece.

Anderson shot 52 percent from the field compared to just 42 percent for Olivet, but the Comets made 11-of-24 from 3-point range to just 4-of-12 from behind the arc for the Ravens.

The Ravens had the advantage in rebounds (40-36), points in the paint (44-22), second chance points (14-12), points off turnovers (19-12) and assists (15-14), but the Comets had the edge in turnovers (16-21) and blocks (5-2).

AU (2-3) hosts Albion on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

The Ravens led 54-49 with 3:30 left in the game, but the Vikings scored the next five points to tie the contest with just over a minute remaining.

Andrew Bowman’s two free throws gave the Ravens the lead for good and a last-second North Park 3-pointer bounced off the rim to secure the victory.

There were 14 lead changes and six ties in the contest, in which neither team led by more than six points throughout the game.

Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists, hitting 4-of-10 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Bowman also finished with 12 points to go with three rebounds, making 4-of-11 shots, including two 3-pointers.

Jake Browne came off the bench to score eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds and Justin Reed had eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Jason Riley and Kurt Runyon also chipped in with eight points as only six Ravens scored in the contest.

Both teams struggled from the field, making 37 percent of their shots and both were in the mid-20s in 3-point percentage. AU made 18-of-27 free throws while North Park was only 5-of-9 from the charity stripe.

The Vikings held a 43-31 advantage on the boards, including 15-6 on the offensive glass. North Park had the edge in points in the paint (28-20), second chance points (9-2), assists (14-10) and bench scoring (26-8) while the Ravens had the lead in turnovers (11-15), points off turnovers (17-14) and steals (10-6).

AU (2-2) travels to Albion on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Scots made 9-of-25 3-pointers in the game compared to just 1-of-18 for the Ravens in the contest. For the game, Wooster finished at 41 percent shooting compared to 31 percent for Anderson. The Scots made 21-of-22 free throws and the Ravens netted 19-of-31 from the charity stripe.

Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 19 points and eight rebounds, hitting 4-of-11 field goals and 11-of-14 free throws. Morrison was named to the All-Tournament Team for the two games.

Andrew Bowman was also in double figures with 14 points and seven rebounds, making 4-of-11 field goals and 6-of-9 free throws. However, Morrison and Bowman combined to go 0-for-10 from the 3-point line.

Justin Reed added nine points and three rebounds and Cody Atherton chipped in with seven points and three rebounds off the bench.

Wooster had a 37-34 advantage on the boards, but AU had a 12-7 edge on the offensive glass. The Scots also had the lead in assists (12-6), but the Ravens had a slight advantage in turnovers (16-17) and steals (12-6).

The Scots scored the first 10 points of the game, but AU responded with a 24-18 run over the final 15 minutes of the half to trail by just four at the break 28-24. The Ravens got as close as two (31-29) early in the half and three (43-40) midway through the second half, but Wooster responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead back to double figures at 51-40.

AU (1-2) hosts North Park on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Ravens were led by Jason Riley with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, hitting 6-of-10 field goals.

Andrew Bowman had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals, two blocks and Brock Morrison added 14 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Justin Reed was also in double figures with 10 points, six rebounds and Cody Jackson chipped in six points off the bench.

There were 12 lead changes in the first half and the Ravens led 24-23 with just under five minutes left in the period. However, the Bishops outscored the Ravens 16-5 over the final five minutes to take a 10-point lead at the half.

AU would get as close as 57-55 with 10 minutes left in the game, but Ohio Wesleyan pulled away down the stretch for the win.

Ohio Wesleyan shot 46 percent from the field compared with 41 percent for Anderson. The Bishops had the advantage in rebounds (48-29), offensive rebounds (21-8), points in the paint (44-25), points off turnovers (24-9), second chance points (19-2) and blocks (5-3).

AU (1-1) plays host and No. 9 Wooster on Saturday at 8 p.m.

“What a great way to start the season,” said AU coach Tom Slyder. “That’s a really good team and they will probably win 18 or 19 games this season.”

Andrew Bowman led the Ravens with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists, hitting 11-of-16 field goals and his only free throw attempt.

“I think that’s probably the best game Andrew has ever played in his time here,” said Slyder. “He and Brock (Morrison) are our cornerstones, and both of those guys stepped up big tonight.”

Morrison had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and Jason Riley added 13 points, four assists and four steals. Justin Reed also reached double figures with 10 points, four assists and three steals.

Kurtis Runyon added six points and five rebounds off the bench and Jake Browne chipped in with a basket and five rebounds in 19 minutes.

AU shot 55 percent from the field, including 58 in the first half when it led 44-29. Calvin finished at 42 percent shooting, including just 38 in the first half.

The Knights won the battle of the boards 37-29, including 13-8 on the offensive glass. The Ravens had the advantage in turnovers (12-21), points off turnovers (18-13), points in the paint (50-24) and steals (10-9) while Calvin had the edge in assists (17-14) and blocks (3-1).

“I told the guys if they can play like this, then only imagine how good they can be with good preparation and practice,” said Sylder. “I think this is a great indicator of what kind of team we can have.”

AU (1-0) travels to the Wooster tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Ravens play Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night at 8 p.m.

“We have more incoming players than returning players and the schedule isn’t friendly at the beginning,” said AU coach Tom Slyder. “We’re behind where we have been the last few years. We’re inexperienced in learning our system so we’re at a different starting point.”

The Ravens return three starters from last season’s 18-9 team that finished 12-4 and in second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They are led by senior Brock Morrison, who has been 1st Team All-HCAC the last two years and needs just 147 points to reach the 1,000 mark for his career.

Also returning is senior Andrew Bowman, who has been All-HCAC the last two years and has averaged 11 points per game in his two-year career at AU. Phil Hogan is the other returning starter, averaging 10.8 points per game in his sophomore season.

“Those three will anchor us and Kurtis Runyon will arrive as a leader,” said Slyder. “My concern is our learning curve and how quickly we can learn our system against a difficult early schedule.”

While the Ravens may be a little green in depth, they have plenty of athletic ability behind their three veterans. Runyon will be a sophomore and 6-foot-8 Jake Browne had added some bulk inside. Add newcomers Justin Reed, Jason Riley, Nathan Gross, Ross Heitkamp and Joel Elam and Sylder has more depth than in recent years.

“We can play many different styles and we have a rotation where we can play half court or we can play 94 feet of pressure,” said Slyder. “We have been versatile in our top 4-5, but we have never been potentially as deep and played as many styles.”

The goals are still the same for Slyder, who has an 88-73 record in his first six seasons on the bench. “We want to win conference, host the conference tournament and get to the NCAA Tournament. Those are our goals. We have to be able to defend and buy into our roles that each player has.”

Phil Hogan led the Ravens with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists, hitting 9-of-15 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws. Justin Reed had nine points and three assists and Brock Morrison added seven points and six rebounds.

Nate Gross had seven points off the bench and Andrew Bowman added six points and three rebounds.

AU shot 45 percent from the field compared to 54 percent shooting for IUPUI. The Jaguars had a 40-30 advantage on the boards, including 18-13 on the offensive glass.

AU opens the regular season on Tuesday against Calvin. Tip-off from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium is at 7:30 p.m.

Transylvania was selected to finish first with 86 points and five first-place votes. They were followed by Hanover (78), Rose-Hulman (77), Manchester (75), Defiance (58), Anderson (57), Bluffton (47), Franklin (42), Mt. St. Joseph (18) and Earlham (12).

AU, which finished 18-9 last year, will play an exhibition game at IUPUI on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. They open the regular season at home against Calvin on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Senior Gabe Miller was named to the All-HCAC 2nd Team and Andrew Jones and Phil Hogan were Honorable Mention.

Morrison led the Ravens to an 18-9 finish this season, including a 13-5 mark in the HCAC, averaging a team-high 12.8 points and an HCAC leading 7.4 rebounds per game. The junior shot 46 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line. Morrison needs 147 points next season to become the 33rd player to score 1,000 career points.

Miller averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season, shooting 42 percent from the field, 35 from 3-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line. He finishes his career with 867 points, 382 assists and 160 steals. He ranks sixth on the career list for steals and eighth in assists.

Jones was second on the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and third in rebounding (4.2 rpg) and finished his career with 1,189 points, which ranks 23rd on the scoring list. He had 23 points in the HCAC post-season tournament finale against Hanover on Saturday.

Hogan was fourth on the team in scoring this season at 10.8 points per game and the Ravens were 12-1 when he scored in double figures.

“It was a battle of two teams that I thought were really good defensively,” said AU coach Tom Slyder.

Andrew Jones led the Ravens with 23 points and 11 rebounds in his final game, hitting 8-of-13 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws. Jones finishes his career with 1,189 points.

Gabe Miller and Jarrin Forte finished with eight points each and Phil Hogan added six points for the Ravens. Miller added three points and two assists in his final game as a Raven. Other senior Andrew Bowman added two points and two rebounds.

Leading scorer Brock Morrison was held to just one point, missing all five of his field goal attempts, but he finished with seven rebounds and two assists.

AU shot just 34 percent from the field, including 25 in the first half while Hanover finished at 49 percent shooting, including 55 in the second half.

Hanover won the battle of the boards 35-32, but AU had the edge on the offensive glass 11-8. The Panthers had the lead in points in the paint (32-18), assists (14-9), turnovers (14-15), blocks (2-1) and steals (9-5) while the Ravens had more points off turnovers (14-12), second chance points (9-6) and bench scoring (10-7).

AU led 15-12 early in the game, but failed to hit a field goal for more than 10 minutes as the Panthers used a 10-0 run to take control of the game. The Ravens missed nine layups in the first half, making just 6-of-24 field goals.

“We had some untimely turnovers and we had a stretch where we went eight or nine possessions without a basket,” said Slyder. “But we climbed back in the game.”

Hanover still led by 10 points with just under eight minutes left in the game, but AU went on an 10-1 run to cut the deficit to 47-44. Forte hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run and added an assist to Jones on a layup. The Ravens had two possessions to tie, but missed a pair of field goals and the Panthers scored the next seven points to secure the victory.

AU finishes the season 18-9 overall and 13-5 in the HCAC standings.

The victory sets up a semifinal matchup against No. 2 seed Hanover on Saturday in North Manchester at 5 p.m. The games will be carried live on Stretch Internet, Live Stats and WQME 98.7 FM from Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

“It was a good effort for the first game,” said AU coach Tom Slyder. “Our guys came out focused and we got off to a good start and that was because of our defense.”

Against Bluffton, Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, hitting 5-of-11 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws.

Phil Hogan had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, four steals and Andrew Jones had 13 points and two steals. Jarrin Forte was also in double figures with 10 points and six assists, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Andrew Jones added nine points, seven rebounds and Gabe Miller chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals. Miller’s second assists tied him with Slyder for eighth on the career list with 380.

“Forte, Hogan and Miller were doing a good job finding guys coming off ball screens,” said Slyder. “We hung in there after they made a run.”

AU shot 56 percent from the field, including 64 in the first half when it led 41-27. Bluffton finished at 48 percent shooting, including 6-of-18 from 3-point range and 10-of-18 from the free throw line. The Ravens made 6-of-13 from behind the arc and 21-of-28 from the charity stripe.

AU had a 28-25 advantage on the boards, but the Beavers had an 8-5 edge on the offensive glass. The Ravens had the lead in points in the paint (30-22), turnovers (15-17), second chance points (9-6) and steals (13-5) while both teams had 22 points off turnovers.

AU scored the first nine points of the game and led by as many as 20 points in the first half at 24-4. Bluffton used its own 23-11 run to get as close as eight points at 35-27, but AU scored the final six points of the half to lead 41-27 at the intermission.

The Beavers scored the first six points of the second half to cut the lead to eight again and only trailed 54-45 with nine minutes left in the game. AU used an 11-2 run to push the lead back to 18 and the margin was never less than 14 the rest of the game.

AU improved to 18-8 overall and will face the Panthers for the third time this season on Saturday. The teams have split their first two meetings with the home squad winning both games.

The Anderson University Ravens (17-8, 13-5 HCAC) will play No. 6 seed Bluffton (15-10, 8-10 HCAC) in the second game on Friday night at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena in North Manchester. With a victory, AU would advance to the semifinals on Saturday against No. 2 Hanover (18-6, 14-4 HCAC). The championship game is set for Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Anderson swept the season series with Bluffton, winning at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium 76-68 and at Bluffton 86-78. The Ravens enter the tournament winning seven of their last 10 games.

Last year, the Ravens lost to Defiance in the HCAC post-season tournament championship game after winning the regular season. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Div. III tournament and beat No. 6 St. Thomas in the first round before falling to Carthage in the second round.

Their 23 wins were the third most in school history and with three wins this weekend they can become the second class to post back-to-back 20-win seasons. The other was the 1979 and 1980 teams, which both won 22 games.

“You know each other so well, it comes down to who executes the best,” said AU coach Tom Slyder. “You really have to take away (Bluffton’s) inside game and we have to get defensive rebounds and be solid defensively inside the 3-point line.”

The Ravens are led by junior Brock Morrison, who averages 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Senior Andrew Jones is second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and third in rebounding (4.1 rpg).

Also averaging double figures are freshman Jarrin Forte (11.5 ppg), sophomore Phil Hogan (10.8 ppg) and senior Andrew Bowman (10.8 ppg). Senior Gabe Miller is at 9.4 points per game and leads the team in assists (109) and steals (43).

“To play three games in three days, we’re probably going to need to go deep into the bench,” said Slyder. “We have four seniors that have great experience in tournament play in the past and it aspires them to play well.”

The four seniors are part of a class that ranks 8th on the career wins list (70-38) and has the most since the class of 1982 won a school-record 81 games. They also rank 8th in winning percentage at .648. The class of 1964 is first with a .732 winning percentage. The Ravens have advanced to the NCAA/NAIA national tournament four times in school history (1939, 1958, 1961 and 2010).

Brock Morrison led the Ravens with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists, hitting 5-of-7 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws, including three 3-points.

Jarrin Forte had 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and senior Andrew Jones had 12 points and five rebounds in his final home game. Phil Hogan was also in double figures with 12 points and senior Gabe Miller added five points, five rebounds and four assists in his final home contest. Third senior Andrew Bowman chipped in five points, three rebounds and three assists.

AU shot 50 percent from the field, including 53 in the first half when they led 40-35. Hanover finished at 46 percent shooting, including 9-of-29 from 3-point range. The Ravens made 8-of-10 free throws and 8-of-19 from behind the arc.

The Panthers had a 34-30 advantage on the boards, including 10-6 on the offensive glass. The Ravens had the edge in assists (15-14), turnovers (11-16), points off turnovers (15-9), blocks (4-3), steals (5-4) and bench scoring (19-8).

AU led for most of the contest, including its biggest lead of the day at 51-42 with 14 minutes remaining in the game. Hanover used a 10-0 run to take the lead and took its biggest lead of the game at 58-53 with a 16-2 run over the next nine minutes. The Ravens scored the next five points to tie the game for the ninth and final time.

After Hanover took a two-point lead, Forte made a 3-pointer to give the Ravens the lead for good at 61-60. Forte followed with another 3-pointer and added a steal and a basket to push the lead to six and the Ravens weren’t threatened again in the contest.

AU (17-8, 13-5 HCAC) will be the No. 3 seed in the HCAC post-season tournament next weekend at No. 1 Manchester. The Ravens will face No. 6 seed Bluffton in the second semifinal game on Friday at 8 p.m.

The Spartans won the battle of the boards 32-31, but the Ravens had the advantage on the offensive glass 17-11. AU had the edge in turnovers (8-11), points off turnovers (17-9), second chance points (14-12) and bench scoring (21-15). Manchester had the lead in points in the paint (34-20) and steals (5-4).

AU (16-8, 12-5 HCAC) hosts Hanover in the regular season finale on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Anderson University’s Andrew Bowman has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior forward led the Ravens to a 2-1 record this week, averaging 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and two blocks per game. He shot 62 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line.

Bowman scored a career-high 24 points in a victory over Transylvania on Saturday. He had 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocks against Bluffton and added 15 points and seven rebounds vs. Rose-Hulman.

AU (16-7, 12-4 HCAC) travels to conference leader Manchester on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The victory keeps the Ravens (12-4) within striking distance of the conference leaders Manchester (13-3) and Hanover (13-3). AU can clinch the HCAC title and home-court advantage in the tournament with victories over both teams in the final week of the season.

“We stepped up today and had a lot of big performances from the team,” said AU forward Andrew Bowman. “We had a lot of plays where our guards got good penetration and made great passes to get me open.”

Bowman led the Ravens with a career-high 24 points and six rebounds, hitting 7-of-11 field goals and 10-of-12 from the free throw line.

Phil Hogan had 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and Brock Morrison added 13 points and five rebounds. Gabe Miller was also in double figures with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

AU shot 56 percent from the field, including 61 in the first half when it led 35-28. Transy finished at 43 percent shooting for the game.

Transylvania won the battle of the boards 32-26, including 11-4 on the offensive glass. AU had the advantage in assists (15-11), turnovers (10-14) and steals (6-4) while both teams finished with 26 points in the paint and 11 points off turnovers.

AU scored the first four points of the game and never trailed in the contest. Thy led by as many as 10 points in the first half at 29-19 with six minutes remaining.

The Ravens pushed the lead to as many as 15 points in the second half at 64-49 with just under seven minutes left. They led by 13 at the six-minute mark, but a 7-0 run by the Pioneers close the deficit to 65-59 with three minutes.

Transy would get as close as four points at 69-65 with a minute left, but a free throw by Forte and two more by Bowman clinched the victory.

AU (16-7, 12-4 HCAC) travels to Manchester on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. They finish the season on Saturday against Hanover at 3 p.m.

Rose-Hulman had the advantage in assists (15-11), points in the paint (34-30) and bench scoring (18-8) while AU had the lead in turnovers (10-16), points off turnovers (26-10), second chance points (12-10) and steals (7-6).

AU (15-7, 11-4 HCAC) travels to Transylvania on Saturday at 4 p.m.

With the victory, AU clinched a spot in the six-team HCAC post-season tournament. The Ravens are currently in a three-way tie for the conference lead with Hanover and Manchester at 11-3.

Phil Hogan scored a career-high 30 points and had six rebounds, hitting 13-of-19 shots from the field and 3-of-4 free throws, including a 3-pointer.

Jarrin Forte had 22 points and four assists off the bench and Andrew Bowman just missed a double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and four assists. Gabe Miller added eight points, five rebounds, six assists and Brock Morrison chipped in with five points and four rebounds.

AU shot 60 percent from the field, including 63 in the first half when it outscored the Beavers 45-19. Bluffton finished at 35 percent shooting, including 44 in the second half when it outscored the Ravens 59-41.

The Beavers had a 44-34 advantage on the boards, including 22-5 on the offensive glass. Bluffton also had the edge in points in the paint (32-28), assists (16-15), turnovers (11-14), points off turnovers (20-17), second chance points (19-9), steals (8-6) and bench scoring (34-27).

The Ravens scored the first 13 points of the game and led by as many as 28 points in the first half at 45-17. AU took its biggest lead of the game at 52-23 with 16 minutes remaining and still held a commanding 21-point lead with just over eight minutes left in the contest. Bluffton used a 28-13 run to cut the lead to 80-74 with a minute remaining, but two free throws by Hogan and two more by Miller clinched the victory.

AU (15-6, 11-3 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The loss was the first of the season at home in the conference for the Ravens after six straight wins to open HCAC play. AU plays its next four games all on the road in a 9-day span starting on Monday.

Gabe Miller led the Ravens with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, hitting 7-of-13 field goals and 8-of-10 free throws.

Jarrin Forte had 18 points, four assists and Brock Morrison 14 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Jones added 12 points, five rebounds and Andrew Bowman chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. Phil Hogan was also in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.

AU shot 43 percent from the field, but only 4-of-25 from 3-point range while Franklin was at 58 percent shooting, including 7-of-16 from behind the arc. The Grizzlies also made 31-of-38 from the free throw line, including 29-of-37 in the second half and overtime.

The Ravens outrebounded the Grizzlies 37-34, including 19-6 on the offensive glass. AU also had the advantage in points in the paint (52-36), turnovers (7-17), points off turnovers (20-12), second chance points (17-9), blocks (3-1), steals (8-3) and bench scoring (22-9).

Franklin led by as many as 14 points in the first half and held a 36-26 lead at the intermission. The Grizzlies led by as many as 17 points in the second half at 60-43 with 11 minutes left in the game.

Franklin didn’t hit another field goals for more than six minutes, but scored 13 straight points from the free throw line to maintain a 13-point lead at 75-62 with five minutes remaining. The Grizzlies still led by nine with just over a minute left, but the Ravens scored eight straight points in 37 seconds to cut the deficit to 77-76 with 35 seconds left.

After another free throw by Franklin, Miller tied the game at 78 with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left to force overtime. Miller’s bucket to open overtime gave the Ravens their final lead of the game at 80-78. The Grizzlies first six points in overtime came from the free throw line and they built a 90-83 lead with a minute left.

Forte hit a 3-pointer to cut it to four and 30 seconds later, Morrison made one from behind the arc to cut the deficit to 93-91 with 25 seconds remaining. Franklin missed two free throws, but AU missed a pair of jumpers in the lane to tie and another free throw by the Grizzlies made it a three-point game with six seconds left. Miller’s despiration 25-footer at the buzzer was off the mark to end the game.

AU (14-6, 10-3 HCAC) travels to Bluffton on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

AU leads Hanover by one game in the HCAC standings with six games remaining in the regular season. The Ravens (14-5, 10-2 HCAC) travel to Bluffton on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
