Pioneers defeat Ravens in HCAC soccer semifinal

msoccerThe Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to top-seeded Transylvania University 5-0 on Tuesday in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament at Thomas Field in Lexington, Ky.

The Pioneers outshot the Ravens 15-4 in the game and had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage had four saves in goal for the visitors.

Matt Young led the Ravens with two shots and Austin Fridley and David Droeger added a shot each.

AU finishes the season 8-11-1 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC.

Men’s soccer win secures No. 3 seed at Bluffton

matthews_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Bluffton University 2-1 on Saturday at Bluffton, Ohio.

Austin Fridley scored the first goal and David Droeger scored the second for the Ravens as they led 2-0 at the half. Matt Robinson had an assist on the first goal and Kingsley Kantande and Caleb Nickel each had an assist on Droeger’s goal.

Bluffton outshot AU 19-15 in the game, but the Ravens had a 10-4 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage had four saves in goal for the Ravens.

Droeger and Matt Young led the Ravens with three shots and Fridley and Nickel added two shots each.

AU (8-10-1, 5-3 HCAC) will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and travel to No. 2 Transylvania for the post-season tournament semifinal on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

Raven men fall at MSJ; clinch HCAC berth

msoccer3The Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Mt. St. Joseph 2-0 on Saturday at Schuyler Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Lions outshot the Ravens 19-17 in the game, but the visitors had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage had six saves in goal for AU.

David Droeger led the Ravens with five shots and Matt Young had four shot. Caleb Nickel added three shots.

Despite the loss, AU clinched a spot in the four-team post-season HCAC tournament with losses by Bluffton and Defiance on Saturday in other conference games.

AU (7-10-1, 4-3 HCAC) travels to Bluffton on Saturday for the regular season finale at 2 p.m.

Raven men’s soccer falls at Chicago 3-0

msoccer2The Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Chicago University 3-0 on Wednesday in Chicago, Ill.

Chicago outshot AU 29-9 and had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Adam Harris had 13 saves in goal for the Ravens and Austin Fridley led the visitors with two shots.

AU (7-9-1, 4-2 HCAC) travels to Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday at 2 p.m.

AU men’s soccer shutouts out Defiance on Senior Day

woloshin_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College 2-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field on Senior Day.

Matt Robinson scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute with an assist from Ruben Oliva. Matt Young added an insurance goal in the 54th minute.

AU outshot Defiance 33-8 and had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage earned the shutout in net, recording three saves.

David Droeger led the Ravens with eight shots and Austin Fridley, Oliva and Youn had five shots each. Robinson chipped in with four shots and Jake Woloshin three shots.

AU (7-8-1, 4-2 HCAC) travels to Chicago on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Raven men’s soccer falls to Engineers in overtime

savage_webThe Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Rose-Hulman 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday at Macholtz Stadium.

The Engineers scored the winning goal in the 4th minute of overtime after AU tied the game on David Droeger’s goal in the 35th minute on an assist by Austin Fridley.

Rose-Hulman had a 17-12 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage had three saves in goal.

Fridley led the Ravens with three shots and Matt Young, Ruben Oliva and Droeger each had two shots.

AU (6-8-1, 3-2 HCAC) hosts Defiance on Saturday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 3 p.m.

Pioneers get late goal to edge Raven men’s soccer

The Pioneers scored the lone goal in the contest in the 75th minute. Transy outshot AU 16-12 in the game and had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Adam Harris had one save in goal for the Ravens and Caleb Nickel, Matt Young and Ruben Oliva each had two shots for AU.

AU (6-7-1, 3-1 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 4 p.m.

Raven men still unbeaten after soccer win at Manchester

msoccer1The Anderson University men’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, defeating Manchester College 3-0 on Thursday in North Manchester.

Ruben Oliva scored the winning goal with assists from David Droeger and Eric Spencer in the sixth minute. Stephen Harkleroad and Matt Young each added insurance goals with Austin Fridley getting an assist.

AU outshot Manchester 23-8 in the game with both teams taking five corner kicks.

Adam Harris earned the shutout victory in net for the Ravens, collecting one save. Fridley and Young led the visitors with five shots each while Oliva and Harkleroad added three shots each.

AU (6-6-1, 3-0 HCAC) hosts Transylvania on Saturday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 3 p.m.

Droeger wins HCAC men’s soccer weekly award

droegerdavidAnderson University’s David Droeger has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s soccer on Monday.

Droeger had an assist in Anderson’s 3-1 victory over Franklin last Tuesday and added two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 victory at Hanover on Saturday as the Ravens remained unbeaten in HCAC play.

AU (5-6-1, 2-0 HCAC) travels to Manchester on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Men’s soccer still unbeaten in HCAC with win at Hanover

msoccerThe Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover College 3-2 on Saturday at Hanover.

David Droeger led the Ravens with two goals, including the game-winner in the 50th minute. Ruben Oliva had the other AU goal in the 41st minute to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead at the half. Caleb Nickel had an assist on the final goal.

AU outshot Hanover 21-18 in the game and also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Jake Savage had six saves in goal, earning the victory.

Droeger led the Ravens with seven shots, followed by Matt Young with five. Austin Fridley added three shots and Jake Woloshin two shots for the visitors.

AU (4-6-1, 2-0 HCAC) travels to Manchester College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
