Boberg named to All-HCAC men’s soccer team

Anderson University’s Peter Boberg was named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer team for the 2008 season.

Boberg led the Ravens with nine assists and 17 points and was third with four goals.

David Briscoe and Matt Young were named All-HCAC Honorable Mention. Briscoe was second on the team with five goals and fourth with 13 points. Young added four goals, three assists and 11 points, which was fifth on the team.

AU finished the season 8-11-1 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC.

Hanover eliminates AU men from post-season tourney

The Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover College 2-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field in a battle for the fourth and final spot in the conference post-season tournament.

AU outshot Hanover 11-9 in the game and had a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Bobby Holden had three saves in goal for the Ravens.

Matthew Young led the Ravens with four shots and David Briscoe added two shot attempts.

AU finishes the season 8-11-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the HCAC.

AU men’s soccer team falls at Urbana

The Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Urbana University 4-0 on Tuesday in Urbana, Ohio.

Urbana outshot AU 30-9 in the game and also had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Bobby Holden had three saves in goal and Jordan Hobbs added four saves in relief.

Peter Boberg led the Ravens with three shots and Stephen Harkleroad added two shots.

AU (8-9-1, 4-1-1 HCAC) travels to Transylvania on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Young wins Player of the Week Award

Anderson University’s Matt Young has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletics Conference Player of the Week in Men’s Soccer.

Young had two goals and an assist during the week. The sophomore scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute during AU’s 1-1 draw against Rose-Hulman and added a goal and an assist in the Ravens’ 9-0 win over Taylor-Ft. Wayne Saturday.

Anderson (8-8-1, 4-1-1 HCAC) currently is tied with Rose-Hulman atop the conference standings with 13 points apiece. They play at Urbana on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Men’s soccer team dominates Taylor-FW

The Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Taylor University Fort Wayne 9-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field for homecoming.

Paul Hill led the Ravens with three goals and two assists in the game and David Droeger had two goals and two assists.

Other AU players scoring a goal were Matt Young, Peter Boberg, Chad Goodrich and Matt Hill. Ravens with an assist were Young, Dane Masuda, Zach Pearson, Nick Deitrich, Stephen Harkleroad and Matt Hill.

AU outshot Taylor in the game 40-0 and had a 12-0 edge in corner kicks. Bobby Holden earned the victory in goal, playing the first 29 minutes.

Young and Paul Hill led the Ravens with six shots each and Droeger and Harkleroad each had five shot attempts.

AU (8-8-1) travels to Urbana on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

AU scores late to salvage tie at Rose-Hulman

The Anderson University men’s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie on Wednesday night at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute.

The Engineers scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute, but AU knotted the score on an unassisted goal by Matt Young in the 82nd minute.

Rose-Hulman outshot AU 22-15 in the game and also had a 12-4 edge in corner kicks. Peter Boberg led the Ravens with three shots and Bobby Holden had seven saves in goal.

AU (7-8-1, 4-1-1 HCAC) hosts Taylor-Fort Wayne on Saturday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 3 p.m.

Men’s Soccer team gets shutout win over Mt. St. Joe

The Anderson University men’s soccer team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Mt. St. Joseph 2-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

Matt Young scored the game-winning goal in the 22nd minute with Peter Boberg and David Briscoe each getting an assist on the play. The Ravens added an insurance goal in the 45th minute just before the half by Stephen Girt. Teofil Bonaciu and Boberg each had the assist on that goal.

AU outshot Mt. St. Joseph 21-7 in the game with both teams attempting three corner kicks. Bobby Holden had three saves in goal in earning the victory. Young led the Ravens with five shots while Boberg had four shots and Briscoe three.

AU (7-8, 4-1 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Spartans hand AU men first HCAC soccer loss

The Anderson University men’s soccer team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Manchester College 3-2 on Wednesday at the AU Soccer Field.

David Droeger and David Briscoe each scored a goal for the Ravens. Stephen Girt, Nick Deitrich and Chris Pena each had an assist for AU.

Manchester scored a pair of goals in the first 10 mintues before Droeger cut the lead in half with his goal in the 54th minute. The Spartans added a third goal in the 64th minute before Briscoe’s score capped the afternoon in the 68th minute.

AU outshot Manchester 17-15 in the game, but the Spartans had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Jordan Hobbs had one save in goal.

Droeger and Briscoe led the Ravens with five shots each and Matt Young and Peter Boberg each had three shots.

AU (6-8, 3-1 HCAC) hosts Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 1 p.m.

Briscoe wins HCAC Men’s Soccer weekly award

Anderson University’s David Briscoe has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

The freshman midfielder scored the game-winning goal in AU’s 1-0 victory over Bluffton on Saturday. He added a goal and an assist in the Ravens’ 6-1 victory over Robert Morris on Wednesday in Springfield, Ill.

Briscoe leads the Ravens with four goals and is second in points with 11 for the season.

AU (6-7, 3-0 HCAC) hosts conference rival Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 4 p.m.

AU men still unbeaten with shutout over Bluffton

The Anderson University men’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, defeating Bluffton University 1-0 on Saturday at the AU Soccer Field.

David Briscoe scored the lone goal in the game in the 77th minute with assists from Paul Hill and Stephen Girt.

AU outshot Bluffton in the game 14-7, but the Beavers held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Jordan Hobbs earned the shutout in goal, making two saves.

Matt Young led the Ravens with three shots while Briscoe, Caleb Nickel and David Droeger each had two shots.

AU (6-7, 3-0 HCAC) hosts conference rival Manchester on Wednesday. The game will be carried live on the internet broadcast at 4 p.m.
