The project has already started and is expected to be completed by June 20. The last time the track was resurfaced was in 1998 and it will be replaced with 1/2 inch Black SPEED-FLEX L 500 rubber.

SPEED-FLEX is a carboxylated styrene butadiene (SBR) latex running track surface consisting of multiple layers of rubber particles broadcast over a pervious or impervious base. Each layer of rubber shall be bound with a latex bunder. The result is an economical, seamless, self-sealing all-weather surface.

Macholtz Stadium has been the home to Anderson University football and track and field events since 1978 and has undergone several resurfaces over the 33 years of its existence in hosting intercollegiate events. It was also where the Indianapolis Colts held several practices during their tenure on campus from 1984-98 and 2010.

“We competed well and gave an excellent effort,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “With the youth of our team, we had a good showing and have a good base for the future. We had some solid performances and to win four events is great. We need to learn from every competition and work hard in the off-season and be ready for next year.”

Kirk Saunders led the Ravens with a pair of victories in the meet. He won the 5,000 meters in 15:25.14 and was first in the 10,000 meters in a time of 31:59.99.

“Kirk ran great and he knows how to race,” said Wilson. “In the 5,000, he sat back in fifth place for two miles before taking the lead with five laps remaining and never looked back. He covered the last mine in 4:40.”

Tony Johnson won the 100 meters in a time of 10.95 and Leonard Wells was victorious in the discus with a throw of 153-4.

“Tony capped off an outstanding freshman season by winning the 100 meters,” said Wilson. “He was consistent all year and we’re glad he will be around for a few more years. He has a bright future.”

Top five finishers for the Ravens were Wells in the shot put (2nd, 48-3 1/4), javelin (2nd, 169-9) and hammer (5th, 142-6), Jake Wyatt in the 10,000 meters (5th, 33:17.08) and the 400 relay team of Adam Dubuque, Walter Wheeler, Tony Johnson and Wayne Wineglass (5th, 44.58).

“Leonard is just a great competitor and he stepped up in this meet,” said Wilson. “As the defending champion in the discus, there was pressure to repeat and he came through with another title. Just as impressive was his second place finish in the javelin, which is not one of his normal events.”

Other notable finishers for the Ravens were Jordan Huth in the discus (8th, 126-0) and Eric Linn in the 1,500 meters (8th, 4:13.91). Both the relay teams 400 (Dubuque, Wheeler, Wineglass, Tony Johnson) and 1,600 (Dubuque, Wineglass, Matt St. Amour, Tanner Johnson) also place fifth in the meet.
