HCAC Leader Franklin Spoils AU’s Senior Day

Eng_web3The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Franklin College 68-43 on Saturday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium on Senior Day.

Hannah Wickard and Amy Wuestefeld led the Ravens with 12 points and three rebounds each. Wickard hit 5-of-8 field goals in her final home game and Wuestefeld was 4-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Senior Kate Barwick added eight points and eight rebounds and Jenna Wittenberg chipped in with four points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

AU shot 38 percent from the field, including 10-of-11 free throws, compared to 50 percent shooting for Franklin, including 11-of-18 from behind the arc.

Franklin had a 29-28 advantage on the boards, including 9-7 on the offensive glass. The Grizzlies also had the edge in points in the paint (32-20), assists (16-9), turnovers (14-24), points off turnovers (31-10), second chance points (10-4) and steals (12-7).

AU (8-15, 5-11 HCAC) hosts Manchester on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hanover Handles AU women in HCAC contest

wbasketballThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Hanover College 73-48 on Wednesday night at Collier Arena in Hanover.

Hannah Wickard led the Ravens with 13 points and six rebounds, hitting 4-of-6 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws.

Melissa Stachovic had eight points, two assists and Jenna Wittenberg had seven points, five rebounds and four steals off the bench. Amy and Ashley Wuestefeld added six points each and Nyomi Defiel chipped in with six points off the bench.

AU shot 35 percent from the field while Hanover was at 44 percent shooting.  The Panthers had a 37-34 advantage on the boards, including 14-10 on the offensive glass.

Hanover also had the edge in points in the paint (34-14), turnovers (19-30), points off turnovers (31-11), assists (20-11) and steals (14-9) while the Ravens had the lead in second chance points (8-5).

AU (8-14, 5-10 HCAC) hosts Franklin for Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Beavers beat Ravens in HCAC women’s road game

Wuestefeld_web2The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 61-49 on Saturday at Founders Hall in Bluffton, Ohio.

Jenna Wittenberg led the Ravens with 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals, hitting 7-of-9 field goals, including a 3-pointer.

Amy Wuestefeld was also in double figures with 12 points and four rebounds, hitting 6-of-16 field goals. Ashley Wuestefeld added seven points, three rebounds, two assists and Nyomi Defiel chipped in with four points and four blocks.

AU shot 43 percent from the field, including 56 in the first half when they trailed 32-30. Bluffton finished at 46 percent shooting, including 4-of-15 from 3-point range.

The Beavers had a 33-25 advantage on the boards, including 11-9 on the offensive glass. AU had the edge in points in the paint (36-30) and bench scoring (30-11), but Bluffton had the lead in assists (17-13), turnovers (15-16) and second chance points (11-9).

AU (8-13, 5-9 HCAC) travels to Hanover on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

AU women sweep Rose-Hulman in season series

Stachovic_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman 48-39 on Wednesday night at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Ravens also defeated the Engineers in Terre Haute earlier in the year 51-49 to sweep the season series.

Amy Wuestefeld led the Ravens with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and five steals, hitting 4-of-9 field goals, including two 3-pointers.

Jenna Wittenberg had eight points, three rebounds, two assists off the bench and Kate Barwick had eight points, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Melissa Stachovic had seven points, three steals and Ashley Wuestefeld added six points and three assists. Brittany Stafford chipped in with three points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals and Nyomi Defiel had three points, four rebounds and three blocks.

AU shot 37 percent from the field, including a season-high 10-of-16 from 3-point range. Rose-Hulman finished at 41 percent shooting, but only 1-of-4 from behind the arc.

The Ravens forced the Engineers into 31 turnovers, resulting in a 23-12 advantage in points off turnovers. AU also had the edge in assists (14-10), blocks (6-2) and steals (16-10) while Rose-Hulman had the lead in rebounds (34-19), points in the paint (22-10) and second chance points (5-2).

AU (8-12, 5-8 HCAC) travels to Bluffton on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Wuestefeld twins power AU women past Earlham

Ashley_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Earlham College 81-69 on Saturday at Schuckman Court in Richmond.

Amy Wuestefeld and Ashley Wuestefeld both had career-highs in the game as they combined for 41 points and eight assists.

Amy finished with a game-high 23 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals, hitting 8-of-14 field goals and all five of her free throws.

Ashley had 18 points and three assists, making 5-of-9 field goals and 5-of-10 free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Jenna Wittenburg also reached double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Kate Barwick added eight points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and Hannah Wickard chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. Brittany Staford added three points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals off the bench.

AU shot 59 percent from the field, including 9-of-15 from 3-point range and 18-of-24 from the free throw line. Earlham finished at 46 percent shooting, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc and 22-of-26 from the charity stripe.

The Ravens had a 30-20 advantage on the boards, including 8-5 on the offensive glass. AU also had the edge in points in the paint (24-16), assists (21-12), second chance points (9-0) and blocks (4-2) while the Quakers had the lead in turnnovers (18-24) and steals (12-11).

AU (7-12, 4-8 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Raven women’s basketball team falls to Yellow Jackets

wbasketballThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College 62-54 on Wednesday night at the Weiner Center in Defiance, Ohio.

Ashley Wuestefeld led the Ravens with 12 points in the game, hitting 5-of-9 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Amy Wuestefeld added nine points, five rebounds, three steals and Hannah Wickard chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. Mallory Miller and Jenna Wittenberg added six points each off the bench.

Both teams shot 40 percent from the field in the contest and had 12 assists, but the Ravens were 3-of-14 from 3-point range while the Yellow Jackets were 5-of-9 from behind the arc.

AU had the advantage in points in the paint (28-16) and points off turnovers (12-11), but Defiance had the edge in rebounding (34-33), second chance points (12-8), turnovers (17-18) and steals (12-8).

AU (6-12, 3-8 HCAC) travels to Earlham on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Transy women handle AU in HCAC home game

Wickard_web2The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania University 80-72 on Saturday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Kate Barwick led the Ravens with 19 points and nine rebounds, hitting 7-of-12 field goals and 2-of-4 free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Amy Wuestefeld had 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and Hannah Wickard added 11 points and six rebounds. Mallory Miller chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Jenna Wittenberg had seven points, seven rebounds and Melissa Stachovic added six points and three rebounds.

Both teams hit 43 percent of their field goals for the game with 36 rebounds apiece, including 50 percent shooting by the Ravens in the first half when they led 38-33. The teams combined to shoot 78 free throws with Transy finishing 30-of-47 and AU 21-of-31.

The Pioneers had a 34-24 advantage in the paint and also had the edge in assists (13-10), turnovers (12-21), points off turnovers (20-17) and steals (11-6).

AU (6-11, 3-7 HCAC) travel to Defiance on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

AU women fall to Hanover in HCAC home contest

Jenna Wittenberg led the Ravens with 21 points, six rebounds and two assists, hitting 6-of-7 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws.

Amy Wuestefeld had 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and Nyomi Defiel was also in double figures with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Melissa Stachovic added nine points, five rebounds and Hannah Wickard chipped in with eight points.

AU shot 40 percent from the field, including 48 in the first half when it trailed 43-35. Hanover finished at 46 percent shooting, including 61 in the first half.

Both teams finished with 35 rebounds and 26 points in the paint with the Panthers having a slight edge on the offensive glass 12-11. Hanover had a 19-14 advantage in assists and also had the lead in turnovers (20-28), points off turnovers (26-15), second chance points (12-8) and steals (16-11).

AU (6-10, 3-6 HCAC) hosts Transylvania on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Beavers bounce AU women in HCAC contest

Miller_webThe Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 60-53 on Saturday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Amy Wuestefeld led the Ravens with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, hitting 7-of-13 field goals and 4-of-6 free throws, incuding a pair of 3-pointers.

Hannah Wickard was also in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds, making 5-of-9 shots. Melissa Stachovic added eight points, seven rebounds and Kate Barwick chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

AU shot 41 percent from the field compared to 34 percent shooting for Bluffton. Both teams finished with 21 field goals and six 3-pointers, but the Beavers outscored the Ravens from the free throw line 12-5.

The Ravens had a 45-35 advantage on the boards, but the Beavers had the edge in offensive boards 13-11. Bluffton also had the lead in turnovers (9-22), points off turnovers (25-4) and steals (14-4) while AU had the advantage in points in the paint (20-18), second chance points (12-9) and blocks (4-1).

AU (6-9, 3-5 HCAC) hosts Hanover College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

AU women earn overtime win at Rose-Hulman

wbasketballThe Anderson University women’s basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman 51-49 in overtime on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena in Terre Haute.

Amy Wuestefeld led the Ravens with 19 points and seven rebounds, hitting 8-of-16 field goals and 2-of-3 free throws, including a 3-pointer. The junior also hit the game-winning shot with just over 30 seconds left in overtime.

Hannah Wickard had 13 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, making 6-of-11 field goals. Jenna Wittenberg added seven points, five rebounds, five assists and Melissa Stachovic chipped in with five points, three rebounds and three assists.

AU shot 36 percent from the field, including 43 in overtime, where they outscored Rose-Hulman 6-4. The Engineers finished at 33 percent shooting, but only 2-of-8 in the extra session.

The Ravens had a 45-33 advantage on the boards, including 15-8 on the offensive glass. Rose-Hulman had the edge in assists (12-9), turnovers (10-14), points off turnovers (13-5), blocks (5-3) and steals (11-4) while AU had the lead in points in the paint (20-10) and second chance points (14-7).

AU (6-8, 3-4 HCAC) hosts Bluffton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
