Trio competes at North Central track meet

wtrackLeonard Wells, Michelle Roth and Erica Moffitt competed at the Gregory Invitational at North Central College last Friday and Saturday.

Wells threw the discus a national provisional distance of 161 feet, which was the 17th best in the country this season. It was the third best distance in school history.

Moffitt rans a personal best 12:01.63 in the 3,000 steeplechase and Roth went 35-8 1/2 in the triple jump. Roth holds the school record in the triple jump at 37-6.

“It is always fun to compete at a meet like this that has so many good athletes,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “Our people did well for where they have been and they can be proud of the way they competed.”

AU women 4th at HCAC track championships

wtrack3The Anderson University women’s track and field team finished fourth in the nine-team Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute.

Michelle Roth and Stephanie Stichter were named All-Conference after winning the triple jump (37-6) and shot put (40-0), respectively. Roth also finished second in the long jump (17-2 3/4) and third in the 100 hurdles (16.21).

Other top five finishers were Brett Sears in the hammer (2nd, 142-10), Brittany Stafford in the discus (4th, 106-9), Erica Moffitt in the 5,000 meters (2nd, 19:28.91) and 3,000 steeplechase (5th, 12:22.35), Mollie Ringer in the 10,000 meters (4th, 43:29.52), Candace DeLong in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 1:11.23) and 100 hurdles (5th, 16.90), Dani Rufenacht in the 400 meters (5th, 1:04.35) and 800 meters (4th, 2:32.69) and the 1,600 relay (3rd, 52.66) and 1,600 relay team (4th, 4:20.08).

Team scores - Manchester 134, Defiance 132.5, Franklin 131, Anderson 107, Rose-Hulman 81, Mt. St. Joseph 72, Hanover 51, Bluffton 45.5, Transylvania 26.

AU women’s trio wins events at Pre-Conference meet

roth_web1Kate McCollum, Stephanie Stichter and Michelle Roth each won events for the Anderson University women’s track and field team on Friday in the non-scoring AU Pre-Conference Invitational at Macholtz Stadium.

Stichter won the shot put (38 1 1/2) while McCollum was victorious in the high jump (4-9 3/4) and Roth the triple jump (37-3 3/4).

“I was pleased overall by our performances,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “We had many people hit personal bests and two seniors had standout performances. Michelle Roth broke our school record in the triple jump with a big jump of 37-4, which was a personal best for her by nearly two feet.  John Rigsby had a personal best in the pole vault with a jump of 14-feet.”

AU runs in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday in Terre Haute.

Raven men compete at Little State Invitational

dougherty_webThe Anderson University men’s track and field team finished 16th in the 18-team Little State Invitational on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

Leonard Wells led the Ravens with a fifth place finish in the discus with a toss of 144-2. The freshman was also 12th in the shot put (45-9) and 21st in the hammer (118-9).

Other top 10 finishers were John Rigsby in the pole vault (9th, 12-5 1/2), the 400 relay team (9th, 46.15) and the 1,600 relay team (9th, 3:32.36)

dougherty_web1The Anderson University women’s track and field team finished ninth in the 15-team Little State meet on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

Michelle Roth led the Ravens with a pair of top five finishes in the meet, placing fourth in the triple jump (34-10 1/2) and fifth in the long jump (16-6). She was also seventh in the 100 hurdles (16.42).

Other top 10 finishers were Stephanie Stichter in the shot put (3rd, 41-3), Erica Moffitt in the 3,000 steeplechase (6th, 12:03.51), Candace DeLong in the 400 hurdles (9th, 1:09.68) and Kate McCollum in the high jump (10th, 4-11).

Women finish fifth in track AU Invitational

sears_webThe Anderson University women’s track and field team finished fifth in the seven-team AU Invitational on Saturday at Macholtz Stadium.

Michelle Roth led the Ravens with a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (16.13) and long jump (16-8 3/4). Erica Moffitt in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:19.82) and Stephanie Stichter in the shot put (39-7 3/4) also notched runner-up finishes.

Other top five finishers were Stichter in the discus (4th, 109-2) and Brett Sears in the hammer (5th, 129-9).

AU runs at the Little State meet in Marion next Saturday at 10 a.m.

McCollum paces women’s track at IWU

wtrackKate McCollum won the high jump last Saturday at the non-scoring Indiana Wesleyan Invitational in Marion. The junior jumped a distance of 5-1 in the victory.

Other top five finishers at the meet were Candace DeLong in the 400 hurdles (3rd, 1:10.35), Erica Moffitt in the 5,000 (4th, 19:31.60), Michelle Roth in the 100 hurdles (5th, 17.08) and the long jump (3rd, 16-1 3/4), Stephanie Stichter in the shot put (4th, 39-3), Julia Connor in the high jump (5th, 4-7) and the 1,600 relay (3rd, 4:28.19).

“This meet starts our outdoor season and its a start,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “We needed a meeet after being off competition for several weeks. Like most March meets, it was cold and windy, but we competed alright.”

DeLong’s time in the 400 was the best in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season as was Stichter’s distance in the shot put.

Brett Sears was sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 128-9, which is the top mark in the conference this season.

The Ravens host the AU Invitational on Saturday at 11 a.m.

AU women 5th in Fred Wilt Indoor Invitational

tipton_webThe Anderson University women’s track and field team finished fifth in the 10-team Fred Wilt Memorial Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Ward Fieldhouse at the Kardatzke Wellness Center.

Calvin won the meet with 140 points, followed by DePauw (109), Albion (63), Manchester (62) and Anderson (54).

“We performed well in a competitive meet,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “If we could leave the meet knowing that we had given our best for that day then we would be successful.  I think we did well in reaching for that goal.”

Michelle Roth led the Ravens with a pair of first-place finishes in the 55 meter hurdles and the long jump. She finished the hurdles in a time of 9.00 and a distance of 4.65 meters in the long jump. She was also second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.39 meters. Roth’s time in the 55 hurdles was a personal best.

Other top five finishers for the Ravens were Erica Moffitt in the 3,000 steeplechase (3rd, 11:43.07), Brett Sears in the weight throw (3rd, 14.51 meters), Jordan Tipton in the pole vault (4th, 2.59 meters), Mollie Ringer in the mile (5th, 5:56.35), Candace DeLong in the 3,000 steeplechase (5th, 12:02.26) and Julia Connor in the high jump (5th, 1.47 meters).

The Ravens travel to the DePauw Indoor Qualifier on Friday at 5 p.m.

Roth, Moffitt pace women in Raven meet

delong_webMichelle Roth and Erica Moffitt both finished second to lead the Anderson University women’s track and field team in the non-scoring Raven Invitational on Saturday in Ward Fieldhouse at the Kardatzke Wellness Center.

Roth finished second in the long jump with a distance of 15-11 1/2 while Moffitt was the runner-up in the 3,000 meters in a time of 11:05.28. Roth also finished fifth in the 55 hurdles in a personal best time of 9.15.

“It was a good outing for our team,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “Overall, our team is making progress and I saw a level of competitiveness that I haven’t seen yet this season.”

Other top five finishers were Candace DeLong in the mile (3rd, 5:36.65), Dani Rufenacht in the mile (4th, 5:50.22), Rena St. Clair in the 200 meters (4th, 28.78) and 400 meters (3rd, 1:05.18), Brett Sears in the weight throw (5th, 47-7 1/4) and shot put (5th, 35-6), Julia Connor in the high jump (4th, 4-9) and Kate McCollum in the high jump (5th, 4-9).

DeLong, Rufenacht and Sears (SP) also had personal best times or distances.

AU hosts the Fred Wilt Memorial Indoor Invitational on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Sears 7th at DePauw Indoor meet

shot_webThe Anderson University women’s track and field team finished 19th at the DePauw University Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Greencastle.

Brett Sears led the Ravens with a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 43-10 3/4. She was also 15th in the shot put with a toss of 33-5 3/4.

“We had good effort by our group that came today,” said coach Scott Wilson. “No big improvements.  Sometimes in life as in track you just have to go through the process.  If you do all you can each day the results eventually will come.”

AU hosts the Raven Indoor Invitational on Saturday in the Kardatzke Wellness Center at 3 p.m.
