The project has already started and is expected to be completed by June 20. The last time the track was resurfaced was in 1998 and it will be replaced with 1/2 inch Black SPEED-FLEX L 500 rubber.

SPEED-FLEX is a carboxylated styrene butadiene (SBR) latex running track surface consisting of multiple layers of rubber particles broadcast over a pervious or impervious base. Each layer of rubber shall be bound with a latex bunder. The result is an economical, seamless, self-sealing all-weather surface.

Macholtz Stadium has been the home to Anderson University football and track and field events since 1978 and has undergone several resurfaces over the 33 years of its existence in hosting intercollegiate events. It was also where the Indianapolis Colts held several practices during their tenure on campus from 1984-98 and 2010.

“I am proud of our track and field student-athletes,” said AU coach Scott Wilson. “We hung in there and competed with a lot of heart and determination. The experience we gained at this meet is valuable, not only for making great memories, but for teaching us how to improve for next year.”

Freshman Emily Radke led the Ravens with a pair of victories as she won both the discus (37.57) and shot put (40-6 1/4). Her distance in the shot put was third best in school history and her toss in the discus is ninth best.

“Emily had an outstanding meet,” said Wilson. “Two event titles at her first conference meet is a great accomplishment. She has a great work ethic and we are proud of what she has done at this meet and all year.”

Candace DeLong won the 3,000 steeplechase in a conference record time (11:26.21) and Alex Friske was victorious in the 100 hurdles (15.28).

DeLong already holds the school record in the steeplechase in a time of 11:22. She was also on the sixth-place 1,600 relay team.

“Candace is a determined young lady,” said Wilson. “Things didn’t go her way at last year’s conference meet so for her to come back this year and break the steeplechase record is rewarding. She worked hard and I am glad I was able to witness it.”

Top five finishers for the Ravens were Friske in the 200 meters (3rd, 27.30) and high jump (4th, 5-1 3/4), DeLong in the 5,000 meters (3rd, 19:17.10), Amanda Spear in the javelin (4th, 99-8) and Sarah Bromagem in the 800 meters (4th, 2:25.23).

“Alex is a very positive person and willing to put in the time,” Wilson said of Friske, who also ran on the 400 and 1,600 relay teams. “It’s fun to see someone’s hard work pay off at a meet like this.”
