During my senior year at FSB, I jumped on board with AMG. Throughout the year I treaded unmarked territory and tried to develop a real marketing team. Without much experience, this proved to be a challenge, but it was quite exciting. If this thing worked, it could be an invaluable opportunity not only for my team and myself but for future students. Building the team and structuring AMG taught me how to take initiative, which I have brought to my future position. (more…)

My husband Chris (1999 finance grad) and I formed Blue Door Ministries, Inc., from our home in London, England. We aid in providing free resources for churches in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. We also administrate live online church experiences several times each week in partnership with LifeChurch.tv. My personal focus is on creating a strong online community of believers and lost people wanting to learn more about Jesus through training, small groups, and missions. We are driven by the goal of connecting churches and believers around the world to make a global difference in reaching lost people — everywhere — before Jesus returns. Nearly every week I speak in public or on video and write content for various blogs. Hands down, being part of the SIFE competition presentation team gave me practical experience to prepare me for the work I do today. (more…)

I’ve always been captivated by entrepreneurship, and the Falls School of Business has allowed me to pursue my dreams in ways I never thought possible. The most memorable experience I have in the School of Business is starting my own pancake restaurant with the support and backing of two of my professors. Opening up a restaurant was literally a dream come true, and the experiment quickly went from a practical example of what we learned in class to a campus-wide phenomenon. (more…)
Dawn Claussen Bartels, 1990 music business grad
When I was a music business major at AU, I was much more focused on and interested in the music part of that major. Oh, how things have changed! I am now self-employed in private practice as a licensed mental health counselor in Orlando, Florida. While I still utilize the creativity of the music part of that degree (I often write songs and stories for clients), I certainly rely a great deal on what I learned in the Falls School of Business to run my business.
As much as I disliked accounting and economics at the time, those classes helped me understand how to provide for my family while I am making a difference in the lives of hurting families. (more…)

After Attending the Anderson University Falls School of Business, I moved to Fishers, Indiana, and started a music business including playing guitars and piano tuning and repair. One of the things I learned in the FSB was that networking was key when building a business from scratch. When I was involved in market research classes or advertising-related classes, we always worked alongside a community organization or a real entity where connections and relationships were made and the local business world was symbiotic. We learned much from them and they received a tangible service from us as working, open-minded students. This has been adapted in my business. (more…)
Kyle Lacy, 2006 marketing grad
I started a company in June of 2007 with Brandon Coon (2005 finance grad). We now have a company of five people and complete branding, web design, and social media marketing projects for clients. I guess you could say we are making a difference because we are employing people in a down economy.
One of the valuable experiences I had was at Orangehaus Records out of the School of Music. The number one influence in my life when I was attending FSB had to be Dr. Michael Bruce. He was the most difficult professor I had in any class throughout my college career. He had the tendency to fail me. The one thing I appreciate about Dr. Bruce is his willingness to teach, listen, and learn from his students. I spent many hours in his office throwing business ideas at him and trying not to fail marketing research. His willingness to help his students far surpasses anything I have and will experience from a teacher. The people I met at Anderson University are by far what I will always remember.
