There is a new honor society at Anderson University. Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, recently opened on campus, thanks to the Department of History and Political Science.

AU honors four retiring faculty

Anderson University recently honored four faculty members who retired at the end of the spring semester. During a reception in Reardon Auditorium on April 26, faculty and staff gathered to share congratulations and words of appreciation for Professor Paul Gray, Professor Zola Noble, Dr. Linda Swindell, and Dr. Ken Turner.

Colts to hold camp at AU again

Indianapolis Colts training camp isn’t going anywhere after all.

The NFL franchise ended months of speculation Monday by announcing it will hold camp at Anderson University this summer for the third straight year. Players are scheduled to report July 28, and the first practice will take place July 29.

Ravens soar to title, advance to NCAA tournament

Anderson University can credit its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament title to a five-run fourth inning and the defensive play of its left fielder from Lima, Ohio.

The Ravens erased a 2-1 deficit with a five-run explosion on their way to a 6-3 championship game triumph over Manchester on Saturday afternoon. AU will find out Monday where they will play in the NCAA Division III tournament next weekend.

AU honors community contributors

Lois Settlemeyer earned two degrees from Anderson University decades ago, so when she learned she would be receiving an honorary doctorate from her alma mater she was shocked.

“I was just amazed to hear the news,” the now-award-winning photographer said. “What an honor.”

During Saturday’s graduation service, Settlemeyer was one of four to receive an honorary degree, along with Charles Dickmann, Frank Campbell, and Johnny Wilson.

AU graduates look back, forward at commencement

Identical twins Elizabeth and Katherine Barwick anxiously lined up outside Anderson University’s Reardon Auditorium, adjusting their black caps and gowns.

It had been a lot of hard work, but the Mishawaka women said there was much fun mixed in with that dedication and they would miss their experiences from college.

They were just two of 645 who graduated from AU on Saturday afternoon at the Kardatzke Wellness Center.

Brothers to bike from AU to Florida

Jeremiah Stichter wanted to do something extraordinary this summer. So, the Anderson University sophomore accounting and computer science major formulated a plan: a biking trip to Panama City, Fla., with his oldest brother Adam Stichter, a 2010 AU alumnus. The brothers and their father had biked around Michigan after Jeremiah graduated from high school, so they knew it could be hard to pull off but decided it was well worth the planning and effort.

AU honors three with Morrison, MOSAIC awards

Anderson University recently honored Tom Bruce and Dr. Linda Swindell with John A. Morrison Awards for their commitment and service to AU. In addition, the university presented the inaugural MOSAIC award to Dr. Donald Boggs. The awards were presented May 3 during the university’s annual faculty/staff recognition luncheon.

Ravens welcome HCAC pressure

The statistics are gaudy, and the conference record is spotless.

But instead of entering this weekend’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball tournament overconfident, the Anderson University Ravens recognize that there is still more work to do.

“It puts a target on our back,” said senior pitcher Monica Crowe of AU’s 16-0 HCAC record. “But we don’t have any cockiness. We know that any team can be beat.”

Jim Bailey: Missionary family learns how fragile life is

Norberto and Julie Kurrle seemed to have everything going for them.

The Anderson University graduates had an active missionary program going in Paraguay, he with a radio ministry and she with Children of Promise. They had an active 6-year-old, Timmy, and had finalized the adoption of 1-year-old Anahi. And, it was told later, Julie was six weeks pregnant. They were preparing to return to the United States for a three-month furlough. Life was good.
