AU honors first two recipients of Eisenhower Endowed Scholarship

Anderson University recognized the first two recipients of the recently established Eisenhower Endowed Scholarship Fund during a luncheon on April 18. AU senior Michael Heckendorn, the 2011-12 recipient of the award, and junior Benjamin Herrick, the 2012-13 recipient, were honored during the event, which was also attended by AU alumnus Jeffrey D. Claflin BA ’81, who was instrumental in establishing the new scholarship at AU. (more…)

Emmett Dulaney: Business plans and MapQuest

One of the biggest strikes against a small business having a business plan is that everyone knows someone who was quite successful in the absence of one. Quite often, they also know someone who had a business plan and that business somehow failed. Given that both ends of the spectrum exist, small business owners question why the time and effort should be put into creating something which seems so capricious.

AU recognizes seniors for academic, athletic achievement

Anderson University recognized seniors Daniel Kelsey and Doris Elliott during honors chapel/convocation on April 17, for achieving a 4.0 cumulative GPA during their years at AU. Candace DeLong and Michael Tucker were also recognized with the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for their academic and athletic accomplishments, campus involvement, and leadership. (more…)

Brown receives SGA Nicholson Award

kevin-brownDr. Kevin Brown, assistant professor of business and finance, was recently honored with the Nicholson Award, presented by the Anderson University Student Government Association.

SGA President Kevin Sheward presented the student-selected award during chapel on April 12. Sheward described Brown’s appeal to students as being challenging, accomplished, and knowledgeable in his field, but also responsive to students on an individual level. Once Brown’s name was called, the student audience responded with enthusiastic applause as he walked across the stage to receive his award.

Anderson University receives community outreach grant

The Anderson University Falls School of Business recently announced the receipt of a grant from the Indiana Campus Compact, which will be used to fund a Listening to Communities event on May 1, 2012. Dr. Rebecca Haskett, grant recipient and professor of management, will address service learning class projects and skills for employment at the event. Indiana Campus Compact encourages service opportunities on college campuses in Indiana. (more…)

Emmett Dulaney: Purpose is a terrible thing to misplace

In business, it is important to have a well-written mission statement for one very simple reason: it serves as a reminder for why the company exists and operates in the manner in which it does. So often, in the day-to-day tedium of keeping up with the competition and focusing on making payroll, it can be easy to lose sight of the mission and deviate from the core purpose unless it is there in writing and regularly referenced.
