"Paul: A Musical Journey" will be featured on the Reardon Auditorium stage, Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Anderson University. The musical, written by Anderson University alum, Charles Myricks, Jr., (BA ’82) is the life changing story of the Apostle Paul. The show has garnered rave reviews and received standing ovations at every performance since it opened in Akron, Ohio, in January, 2005. It has been called “rollicking” and “infectious” by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and “jam packed with soul satisfying music” by the Akron Beacon Journal.

While the story has its roots in the history of Christianity, the musical’s message is universal. Through a host of new and moving songs, Myricks spins a tale of love, hope and passion. Personal failure is met with the opportunity for redemption.

David Briggs, religion writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer says “The musical uses a powerful blend of gospel music, rhythm and blues, jazz and rock to tell the story in song of the life of Paul. It covers his early days as a merciless foe of the early Christian church through his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus and ultimately to his own martyrdom in service of his new faith.”

Prior to making its Anderson debut, the show has enjoyed highly successful performance runs in Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus OH, as well as at venues in Michigan and Pennsylvania. In January 2006, Paul showcased to an enthusiastic response at the national convention of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters in New York City. Following the Anderson performance, the show will visit venues in Oklahoma City and Long Island NY.

The cast of "Paul" features a talented ensemble of vocalists and musicians from across the country, including Anderson University alum Charles Myricks, Wilette Blakely and Erick Townsend. Mr. Townsend performs the lead role of Paul. The show also features members of Divine Hope, a leading gospel group in the Midwest and past winners of the National New Artist Search.
