Shortly before 8 a.m. today, October 3, a small fire occurred in the northeast corner of the student lounge within Morrison Hall. The fire was contained and no injuries were reported. Fire alarms and the building sprinkler system were activated immediately and students within the hall were evacuated.

The sprinkler system was localized over the fire and some water damage was discovered in both the lounge as well as two students rooms directly underneath the lounge.

Officials from the Anderson Fire Department and Anderson University arrived on the scene immediately. Many students living in Morrison Hall relocated to Park Place Church of God as well as Decker Hall awaiting clearance to re-enter the dorm.

As of 10:30 a.m. this morning, students were permitted to permanently return to their rooms and the dorm was given an "all-clear." Service crews are continuing the clean-up-effort and the cause of the fire is still being investigated. It is being requested that, for the time being, residents enter Morrison Hall through entrances at the ends of the building.

Morrison Hall was constructed in 1949 and houses approximately 133 female students. The dorm was renovated during the summer of 2007.

As more information is made available it will be reported.
