AU alumnus, Jon McLaughlin sings at the Oscars

AU alum and Hoosier recording artist Jon McLaughlin had an audience in more than 200 countries on Feb. 24 as he sang "So Close" during the Academy Awards ceremony. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 were presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and were televised live by the ABC Television Network. The show was hosted by comedian Jon Stewart.

Written by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, "So Close" is part of the soundtrack for the recent Disney film "Enchanted." In the movie, McLaughlin performs "So Close" as he portrays a ballroom singer. The category includes two other Menken-Schwartz compositions from "Enchanted": "Happy Working Song" and "That's How You Know."

Jon McLaughlin, a 2005 AU alumnus released his first album with Island Records in May, 2007. The album, entitled, INDIANA, features songs such as “Beautiful Disaster” and “Industry.” McLaughlin has toured with artists such as with Kelly Clarkson, O.A.R., Live, Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, and Sister Hazel.
