The Anderson University Alumni Association recently signed a contract through GradMed, the nation's leading alumni insurance partner for short-term medical insurance, to provide healthcare to the 2010 graduating class. The new health care option is being marketed mainly to 2010 graduates, but it is available to all recent graduates.

helios“We are pleased to offer a service like GradMed that meets real needs of many of our alumni,” said Bob Coffman, vice president for advancement. “They have a record of providing quality service to many of the leading colleges and university in the country.  We believe that offering GradMed fits in well with our commitment to adding value to the Alumni relationship.”

“We heard from different schools that making health care available to alumni had positive reactions so we thought that it was the right time to show offer this service.  It shows our alumni that we can value to their lives even after they leave AU,” said Ben Davis, director of University Relations.

Davis said that there is “power in numbers for having less premium pricing.” The packages will not be available for students who are currently enrolled in school because they can still be on their parents’ insurance. This is specifically directed to students who have recently graduated and are no longer on their parents’ plan.

Every alumnus who wants health care through the Alumni Association will have a choice between a 1,2,3,4 and 6-month plans for a custom-made package.

GradMed is designed to provide coverage for recent grads and people in transition between jobs. It's affordable, comprehensive coverage with a regional average cost of $3.40 per day for a plan with a $500 deductible.

“The pricing is competitive and very reasonable,” said Davis. “It is much less than trying to find an independent insurance coverage on your own.”

With GradMed, there is no network. Participants can choose any doctor or hospital and it provides the basic coverage you need for emergency room visits and x-rays.

The program is being marketed directly to Alumni under age 30, but all alumni under 60 are eligible.

Visit for next day coverage or mail or fax an application for coverage the day after receipt. Additional information, including FAQs regarding health care reform is available at Contact the plan administrator at (800) 922-1245 to speak to the customer service department.
