Anderson University senior Erin Groh received a Student Silver ADDY award during the American Advertising Federation's District 6 competition in March. The district includes the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.

Groh was recognized for her illustration in support of the 2010-11 Anderson University campus theme, "Awakening to Wonder," developed in consultation with Dr. Todd Faulkner, AU campus pastor. The design had already earned Groh a Student Gold Addy at the East Central Indiana ADDY awards ceremony on Feb. 26, and will advance to the national competition in May.

As Groh began working on the concept for "Awakening to Wonder," she was faced with the challenge of creating a compelling visual theme within a short period of time. Despite looming deadlines, Groh was able to give thoughtful attention to the meaning behind the design.

"The idea of the 'Awakening to Wonder' theme was to encourage students to revert back to the view of the world they had as children; to stop and consider the small details that get lost in life as we lose the curiosity that we had when we were young," said Groh. "The sunrise imagery for the theme represents this idea, evoking the urge to wake up to what is around us and relish the beautiful things God has made."

Groh said the design is a personal milestone, as it represents her first work created for a large public audience.

"We congratulate Erin Groh upon her receiving an ADDY award for her outstanding design for the Spiritual Life theme of 'Awakening to Wonder,'" said Tom Bruce, executive director of university advancement. "Erin has been a key student member of our outstanding publications team, and we know she will continue to bring great design to her future professional endeavors."
