Anderson University has received the designation “College of Distinction” in the newly-released 2012-2013 edition of Colleges of Distinction eBook. Eight colleges and universities have been included in the eBook each excelling at the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Communities, and Successful Outcomes.

"We are honored to be identified as a 'College of Distinction' for our achievements in academic excellence and discovery," said Dr. Marie Morris, Provost.

According to their website, "the Colleges of Distinction is a college guide with a unique approach. Instead of looking for the richest or the most famous schools, we ask about what really matters: Which colleges are the best places to learn, to grow, and to succeed? All of the schools share excellent reputations among high school guidance counselors and education professionals, not to mention employers and graduate schools. Their classrooms are among the most exciting in the country; their programs are some of the most innovative."

Colleges and universities are nominated for participation in Colleges of Distinction by high school college counselors. The Colleges of Distinction interviews staff and faculty at each accepted college. Feedback is gathered from administrators at other colleges and high school counselors across the country. Each college is visited to get a feel for student engagement and quality of teaching. Graduation rates, classroom size, and other key stats that speak to the Four Distinctions are also considered.

"At a recent alumni breakfast, with graduates from the early 60's to as recent as 2012, I heard a consistent theme - 'At Anderson University I was able to connect with faculty both in and outside of my discipline of study. The faculty's commitment to teaching excellence, to me as an individual learner, and to the value of a liberal arts education in my growth as a educated individual of character is what stands out most to me from my experience at AU,'" said Morris. "To hear this from alums across a 50-year span of time confirmed for me what I experience each day as Provost - Anderson University is an engaging and vibrant learning community with faculty who are deeply committed to education of the highest order resulting in graduates impacting the world in meaningful and profound ways. I am thrilled that our university has been honored with this external recognition."

College seekers can also visit the Colleges of Distinction website to learn more about featured schools, including Anderson University. Furthermore, students, parents and counselors are provided tools and resources on researching colleges, the admission process and financial aid information.

The 2012-2013 edition of the Colleges of Distinction eBook features profiles on the eight Indiana colleges and universities awarded this accolade and will be available for tablets, eReaders, and in October will include smartphones.
