Ravens advance to HCAC championship soccer game

The Anderson University men's soccer team defeated Rose-Hulman 1-0 on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament.

The No. 3 seeded Ravens (10-10-1) advance to the championship game where they will play regular season champion and top-seed Transylvania University (15-1-2) on Saturday in Lexington, Ky., at 1 p.m.

The winner will receive the HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III National Tournament next week. Transylvania defeated Anderson 3-0 in the regular season - also played at Transylvania.

Brad Rusche scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute with the assist from Josh Staley. The goal was the 10th of the season for the Raven junior.

Brody Reinholt and Todd Canal led the Ravens with two shots each and Rusche made the most of his only shot of the contest.

Rose-Hulman outshot AU 19-8 in the game, including 10-3 in the first half. The Engineers also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Chris Maloney recorded his fifth shutout of the season in goal. The sophomore had four saves in the contest.
