The Anderson University School of Theology and the Center for Christian Leadership will welcome Dr. Adolfo Roitman on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, for the 31st Annual Newell Lectures in Biblical Studies. Roitman will present lectures focused on the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Robert Heaton, a Master of Theological Studies Thesis Track student at the Anderson University School of Theology, has been chosen as the 2011-12 Jeeninga Fellow in Archaeology. Heaton’s proposal focuses on digging at Tel Hazor, Israel, in a program offered by The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Hazor is one of the early cities mentioned in the Old Testament during the conquest of Canaan by Joshua.
Anderson University recently announced that Dr. Carl Erskine, Dodger baseball legend and trustee emeritus of Anderson University, will address the graduating class of 2012 during commencement exercises on Saturday, May 5. The 3 p.m. (EDT) program will be conducted in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be the Rev. Grant A. Horner, senior pastor at Eastland Church of God in Lexington. Ky.
Born a slave in 1854, Daniel Rudd was owned by a Catholic family in Bardstown, Ky.
That upbringing, and his eventual emancipation and education, led Rudd to become a forward-thinking Catholic activist in America.
“In 1888, he said he believed he would live long enough to see a black man as president of the republic,” said Gary B. Agee, an adjunct professor of church history at the Anderson University School of Theology.
The University of Arkansas Press has published A Cry for Justice: Daniel Rudd and His Life in Black Catholicism, Journalism, and Activism, 1854-1933 by Dr. Gary Agee, an adjunct faculty member of the Anderson University School of Theology. Agee has been teaching church history at the seminary for a number of years.
