Anna Epperly

Anna EpperlyAnna Epperly is an Assistant Professor of Education at Anderson University. As the director of the special education program, she teaches courses in Child and Adolescent Development, Introduction to Mild Disabilities, Classroom Instruction for Mild Disabilities, Legal Issues in Special Education, and Organization and Management for the Elementary Classroom.

She earned both her B.S. and M.Ed. in special education from Ball State University. She holds K-12 licenses in the areas of mild disabilities and emotional and behavioral disorders. Administratively, she holds director of special education and K-12 building administrator licenses. She is currently working on her dissertation in order to complete her doctoral program in special education at Ball State University.

Anna began her career at an elementary school as a resource teacher for students with mild disabilities.  She then spent four years teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders in a separate classroom setting at the middle school level. She developed a passion for working with these students, spending an additional five years teaching middle and secondary level students and administering programs at a residential treatment center serving K-12 students. An opportunity arose next for Anna to continue her administrative career for four years as a program supervisor for an urban school corporation. In 2012, she decided to pursue a career in higher education, enrolling in the Ball State doctoral program and teaching courses as part of her doctoral assistantship and as an adjunct instructor. Anna also taught courses in assistive technology and teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders as an adjunct instructor for Indiana University Kokomo in 2015.

Anna’s research and professional interests include preservice and early career teacher programming and supports, education public policy and reform, working with students with challenging behaviors, curriculum development, K-12 school administration, and transition for students with disabilities into the postsecondary world. She enjoys actively participating in the music and children’s ministries of her church, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. She lives in Frankton with her husband, Scott, and their three children.
